HipHopDX – This week in Hip Hop, XXXTENTACION and Jimmy Wopo were both killed in their hometowns. Also, Teyana Taylor’s sophomore album Keep That Same Energy was released with a livestreaming party on Twitter.

The Death of XXXTENTACION

XXXTENTACION was shot and killed outside a car dealership in Florida on Monday (June 18). He was 20 years old.

Fans and the Hip Hop community mourned his death despite his controversial backstory. A memorial for X and his fans was held in Los Angeles, which ended with Melrose Avenue being shut down. A proper memorial will be held by his family in Florida.

A suspect in the shooting has since been apprehended.

Teyana Taylor Releases K.T.S.E. Album

Kanye West delivered Teyana Taylor’s sophomore album Keep That Same Energy in a chaotic fashion, much like the other projects he’s produced of late. The album was previewed at a listening party in Los Angeles and livestreamed on Twitter.

Fans were getting antsy about the album’s delayed release and even Taylor seemed to be unsure of its status before it finally dropped.

Pac Div Discuss Hiatus, Comeback, “1st Baptist” & Next Project

Pac Div took a six-year hiatus and returned this year with 1st Baptist. The 10-track project has no features and during an interview with HipHopDX, they explained why.

“We wanted to come back and it wasn’t, ‘Oh that’s hot ’cause y’all got features. Y’all got so-and-so on the song,’” BeYoung said. “All that, outside of the producers — shout out to the team — is us singing, it’s us rapping. We wanted to give ’em all Pac Div, like unapologetically.”
