On the heels of XXXTENTACION’s death, Hip Hop has suffered another loss.
Pittsburgh-bred rapper Jimmy Wopo was killed in a shooting in his hometown on Monday (June 18), WPXI News reports. Wopo, whose real name is Travon Smart, was transported to the hospital in critical condition and died at the medical facility.
The up-and-coming artist was one of two victims of the Pittsburgh Hill District neighborhood shooting. He was 21 years old.
Wopo first gained major recognition beyond his hometown with the release of his breakout single “Elm Street” in 2016. The song racked up over 6 million views on YouTube and 3.63 million streams on SoundCloud.
Juicy J, Pusha T and many of Wopo’s collaborators, including Sonny Digital, have taken to Twitter to mourn the loss.
