Maybe it’s me, but is hip-hop at an all time low right now? It’s something that’s been bothering me for some time. I don’t see it as a musical problem. Today’s producers get their respect. It’s all about the MC’s. No one is coming with that originality, that energy, that next shit.

We already have a Jay Z, and it’s about time for us to stop looking for the next BIG or Pac. They were the kings of their era, and now that era is over. We have to let go. Now I’m not telling you to shelve their joints; that would be uncivilized. What I am asking is that we all open our minds a little. We as listeners have to give some of these guys a fair chance. It’s not their fault the early 90’s spoiled us. And these artists have to get on their ‘G’. There is only one Jay Z. We don’t want to hear any watered down versions.

As for the content of the music, it has gotten extremely monotonous. It’s not the fact that everyone is talking about the same thing, that’s been going on forever. It’s just frustrating hearing everyone say it the same way. There is more than one way to skin a cat. We are not always looking for a gimmick, or something catchy. I feel that what we want to hear is the truth, their truth as well as ours. (much easier said then done)

The top artist of today feel they identify with us, but they can’t. All they can do is think back to when they were in our position, on the outside looking in. And take it from me, once you jump inside the box, jumping out and looking in is not that easy, things just don’t look the way they did before.

So what are we going to do? Well, I can’t call it. I’m in the same position you are. Let’s just hope for the better. Let’s hope that Killa Cam steps his game up, and that man Fabolous takes it a little more to the streets on his next effort. Let’s wish that Meth picks it up, and gets the fuck off of Red’s back. We should also pray that Sheek (of the LOX) finally get his shot at a solo album, it’s time for something new. We should write letters to Busta, and tell him to let Rah Diggah do her thing. And maybe most importantly, we should kidnap Bad Boy’s entire hip-hop roster, and I mean everybody. G-Dep, Black Rob, Loon, the whole crew. It’s a shame that Puff has to waist so many bangin tracks on those weak ass artist, case and point, “Special Delivery”.
