Strep Throat: Eminem’s “Chloraseptic (Remix)” Lyrics Prove He’s Naive To Valid Criticism

Would someone please hand Mr. Marshall Mathers a lozenge? Preferably one that’s cherry-flavored.

His mouth is probably still scorching from his scathing verse on “Chloraseptic (Remix)” featuring PHresher and 2 Chainz.

Em is upset that his latest album has had such a lukewarm reception all across the board. Yes, the album went No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and led to him being named a headliner at Coachella 2018, but it also marked his lowest first-week sales numbers of any of his major label albums. Beyond that, it gave him his lowest critic and user scores of any of his solo albums on Metacritic.

But, in his response to Revival detractors, Slim Shady proved he’s missing the point of the backlash.

Em’s verse embodies exactly what exhausted fans and writers on Revival. It’s technically brilliant and stocked with clever metaphors, but his angry delivery and hyperactive flow disregard the beat, creating a jarring musical experience. Even the meaning behind the metaphors reveals a frustrated MC struggling to come to grips with reality.

‘Walk on Water’ sucks/Bitch suck my dick/Y’all saw the tracklist and had a fit before you heard it/So formed your verdict/While you sat with your arms crossed/Did your little reaction videos and talked over songs/Nah, dog, y’all saying I lost it, your fucking marbles are gone”

Marshall unleashes his fury over unreasonable expectations and critics who balked at the pop-heavy tracklist. “Y’all saw the tracklist and had a fit ‘fore you heard it/So formed your verdict/While you sat with your arms crossed/Did your little reaction videos and talked over songs,” he spits. And yet, Eminem has fused pop with rap ever since he sampled Dido on “Stan,” which is arguably his greatest song of all time. Sure, the internet held its breath with trepidation after seeing Ed Sheeran, Beyonce and P!nk on the tracklist. But the Sheeran-assisted “The River” went No. 1 on the Digital Genre R&B/Hip Hop Chart, and though Eminem decried the mixed reactions to “Walk On Water,” there are still plenty of Stans who enjoy playing in puddles with that joint playing in the background.

Shady also seems to think fans want him to adopt a Migos-like triplet flow, and does so on the remix to make a point. He goes on to rhyme: “But am I s’posed to sound like everything else out?/’Cause I don’t get compared to it, only myself now/And I can see the fair-weather fans and sales down/But the only way I care is if I let myself down.” The very fact that he responded with this fiery cut proves he absolutely cares about the response to his album. And since when has anyone ever wanted Eminem to sound like a trap rapper? He’s beloved precisely because he is unique; fans want to hear about his personal life. Just not combined with overproduced production. And, despite his claim to the contrary on the remix, you’d be hard-pressed to find more than a few people who want Marshall Mathers to sound like Macklemore.

Review: Eminem’s Revival — A Sober, Middling Effort From A Weathered Legend

It’s true that Eminem carries a weight of expectations on his shoulders that would crush most other MCs. He’s one of the top-selling solo male artists of any genre of all time, and it can’t be easy to lug that around. There will always be those fans who won’t appreciate Eminem’s new work because it isn’t The Marshall Mathers LP. However, for Em to use that as a primary reason for Revival’s reception is erroneous. Recovery and The Marshall Mathers LP 2 certainly weren’t at the level of The Slim Shady LP or The Eminem Show, but they were still well-received by his fans and the internet.

The closest Shady came to recognizing the driving forces behind his detractors came from a single bar: “Why you always gotta smack a whore?” The operative word there is always. Revival was meant to be a rejuvenation of sorts for Em, but the album proved that, aside from calling out Donald Trump, Slim has almost nothing new to say. The shock raps, relationship ballads, and journal entries are all recycled to a lesser effect than previous like-minded Eminem songs.

This is the first time Eminem has taken criticism for an album so poorly. (What happened to “I-don’t-give-a-fuck?”) In fact, he showed remarkable humility on the lead Recovery single “Not Afraid” when he copped to the mediocrity of Encore and Relapse. His anger shows that he’s at a loss, and though this remix indicates that he won’t stop rapping anytime soon, it’s pretty clear where the 45-year-old maestro needs to go from here.

Andre 3000 is heavily criticized for not dropping a solo album, but Marshall should take a page from Mr. Benjamin’s rhyme book and drop sizzling 16’s here and there while focusing his creative energy on other projects. He’s an adept producer, and the new artists on his label would continue to benefit greatly from his direction. Boogie, in particular, is poised to blow up in ‘18. He also produced the battle-rap comedy Bodied, which wowed audiences upon its release last year.

So, yes: Marshall is a Hip Hop legend with nothing left to prove. He has nothing to gain from dropping middling projects that seem to be, at least in part, a response to the immense pressure that he feels from his fans.

Rather than rage against the machine, Eminem needs to take a breather and reevaluate the direction of his career.

    It’s that time.

    1. and whoever wrote this garbage should do the exact same thing you’re asking Shady to do, re-evaluate the direction of your career, moron!… EM gonna be the Goat till HipHop ends, his pen can’t be touched, musically yea he doesn’t hit the mark always but never question his PEN game, you just make yourself look and sound like a douchebag! its called Emceeing, rapping, not dance machine wars, emcees are judged by the lyrical prowess not some beat that a used up Thot can shake her gangbanged ass to…

        1. Nobody is contesting his lyricism. In fact, the editorial praises the metaphors on the remix. But, Eminem is an artist. Dope rhymes are just one part of the equation.

          1. He absolutely murders the remix on ALL FRONTS delivery included. Agree he has issues on Revival and post 2003 a lot of times (although still has flashes of brilliance) but this verse on the remix was pure flames start to finish

    2. Thank you Aaron. Finally somebody says this. I especially agree with “Recovery and The Marshall Mathers LP 2 certainly weren’t at the level of The Slim Shady LP or The Eminem Show”

    3. Honestly, Revival begins and ends too well to be a 3 star album. It kind of sputters in the middle, but Em proves he still has it lyrically and vocally.

        1. You don’t know Hip-Hop. I know Hip-Hop. You just listen to gay rap, not Hip-Hop. That’s my argument. I accept your apology.

        2. You don’t know Hip-Hop. I know Hip-Hop. You just listen to gay rap, not Hip-Hop. That’s my argument. I accept your apology.

        3. You don’t know Hip-Hop. I know Hip-Hop. You just listen to homo rap, not Hip-Hop. That’s my argument. I accept your apology.

            1. You heard me. what is wrong with my argument? You just listen to gay arp not Hip-Hop lol

    4. Eminem needs to do two things, get out of his comfort zone and make a straight up rap record.

No I.D. Should executive produce it but also put his hand and talent in the beats. No I.D. Could bring a classic balance and foundation (like he has done for Jay Z, Nas, Vince Staples) to create something Em hasn’t had in a long time and dare I say ever, a full on Classic. (Eminem Show, I think is probobly his only one)

But this is Hip Hop, and you can’t just have Em make a Traditional Boom Bap record, it’s got to be innovative, and he should use what he already has available to him through Interscope, TDE producers. Digi+Phonics, DJ Dahi, Terrace Martin…just working with those guys alone with No ID at the helm will just breed innovation. Em has bars for days and days, but having innovative collaborators on the production end can really bring out some interesting results.

Maybe we can get a true Concept Album from Em. A cohesive classic, with innovative sounds and movement, grounded in classic hip hop by a Master that excels at every project they helm.

Lastly he should not have any features at all except for a hook here or there.

Or the features he has should just be rappers. TDE, Shady, Royce? Heck that fake track list of rappers looked like it would be great. Rapping with other rappers could bring out something that has been missing since his early releases, I think there is a concern that having other rappers on a track at this point isn’t good because it’s automatic competition and people will be laying in wait to say who “bodied” who, but fuck that, it’s about the comradery too and that can really elevate the fun of the tracks he could be making at this point in his career.

Or at least just do a track with Redman and Ghostface.

      1. I almost forgot, how does he not utilize his greatest asset he has? How has he not just banged out an album over all Alchemist cuts???? I mean Al is his DJ and he doesn’t utilize him at all. Al is one of the greatest producers of all time! I just do not understand it. They need to just hole up at Alc’s house for a long weekend and just release whatever they come up with on Monday and i gurentee it would blow Revival away.

        1. I wish Em would work with Al providing beats, but Em is scared to put out music that his teenage suburban and country fanbase wont understand.

          1. I personally don’t think it’s an issue. He could rock with Al but the level of his stardom requires him to generate more revenue for his label so as to garner support from the commercial side of the business. Not saying that it can’t be done. But the commercial demographics can’t handle raw music, and the label has invested to much and capitalized on him to risk losing money.

      2. I wish i can like your comment more! Everything you said is the samething I’ve been saying to my boys. Sadly it looks like it wont happen ?.

    5. Think he counted to much on the bandwagon fans on this album, but seeing his sales i guess many just grew from this bad mainstream popshit hes been doing. He said it himself that it is harder to rap than rhyming and that tells alot.Hes not inspired to make good music so he just should have paused for awhile and then come back when he has something to say than all this random shit over bad beats

    6. Maybe he was never that great a rapper? Maybe he just had enough technical ability to get signed, drop a goofy comedy rap album, make fun of Britney and N Sync and that made him a pop star? Maybe that was all he ever was? Two decades later people still sit around wondering what happened and maybe the answer is just “nothing”.

    7. Maybe he was never that great a rapper? Maybe he just had enough technical ability to get signed, drop a goofy comedy rap album, make fun of Britney and N Sync and that made him a pop star? Maybe that was all he ever was? Two decades later people still sit around wondering what happened and the answer is just “nothing”.

      1. You either need to actually listen to his shit or stfu about things you clearly know nothing about. SSLP, MMLP, Eminem show are not “goofy comedy rap albums”. Again, please, before you comment at least have some knowledge on the subject before you talk your shit

    8. This article is so irrelevant and pointless. Let the man cook. He murdered this verse. Why not let it sizzle? Not everything needs this type of over analyzation. Guarantee your website gets more clicks on things Em related than anything else. So who’s really grasping at straws?

    9. why doesn’t someone just fuckin say what everyone else has been thinking: The dude’s voice and flow are outright un-listenable. Period. Stop beating around the bush on some fuckin “hes old, hes talkin bout smackin hoes, hes responding to haters, etc, etc..” So what? If the shit actually SOUNDED good…to the ear… we’d eat it up. But the shit just sounds like he aint even listen to the beat at all, or is just so confused on how his voice should sound on a record. He’s really never been a great pick-picker, but the shit he’s rhymed over the last few years have been an absolute body blow to the last half of his career. And the way he sounds on them makes it all the worse. His flow and delivery is so forced that it’s cringe-worthy. Dude used to drop some corny punchlines before but he got away with it cause he sounded cool as shit… And can we please ban stans from hip hop websites? These clowns are not hip hop fans.

      1. If you don’t think Eminem absolutely murdered his verse you are a complete clown. He’s super inconsistent post 2003 for sure but to act like he doesn’t sound dope AF on this remix verse is comical

    10. Wow…. why don’t you just straddle the band wagon of Eminem haters out there ?? This shit was perfect before you even got a remix. But of course, you got yourself a literature degree, fashioned yourself a career out of writing because the internet is a thing now. If this was a new artist releasing this everybody would be scrolling through their keypads trying to find the most “hype” emoji as a fucking description for this track! Fact of the matter is he’s owned the game since mainstream got him in 99, now nobody knows how they should react when he drops something new in a world full of fucking dribble, he took this art form and made it his own. Kendrick is cool with it, Dre still rides, multi million selling artists like Ed, Pink and Alicia Fuckin Keys even Befuckingoncé. The fact of the matter is hip hop minus Kendrick Lamar is fucking dying, so what do you do?? Pick on the artist that still gives a fuck. I’ve never stanned on anything but I’m sick of this shit. Credit where credit is due!

    11. This can go four different ways. 1. He gets in the studio with Dre, Alchemist, Bass Brothers, DJ Khalil an drops a pure rap album with rap features and a more mature subject matter, a better flow. 2. He retires and focuses on Shady artists, Slaughterhouse, movies, etc. 3. He drops another fucking Recovery. 4. He dies before making another album, though this one is definitely extremely sad and something that won’t cross anyone’s mind, it’s possible. Those drugs, alcohol and depression have definitely took a toll on his well-being.

        1. Check his work on Bishop Lamont and Defari projects. He’s a versatile and very capable producer, in fact he produced “Castle” which is Revival’s best cut. Other than that tho, Em picks his shittiest beats.

    12. To be in EM place in life he shouldn’t worry about what clowns are saying when they are being force fed mumble rap fill wit drugs and violence only one lane

      1. This. This is why we need to ban stans from hip hop websites. Their lack of real hip hop knowledge/understanding is just as cringe-worthy as a 45-year-old Eminem flow.

        1. You don’t know Hip-Hop. I know Hip-Hop. You just listen to gay rap, not Hip-Hop. That’s literally my argument.

      1. HHDX needs to remove the Aaron’s and hire some writers that were alive when the Slim Shady LP dropped …

    13. Verse was fire, this clown’s just hating for the sake of hating. Just because the beat is slower doesn’t mean the flow has to be too. You can sing, rap and dance to the beat without being at the exact speed, as long as you hit the beat at the right time. He believes his album was great and unfairly criticized. I understand because he put a lot of work into it. Lots of the criticism is BS as well. Album wasn’t as amazing as Eminem believes but it wasn’t terrible. Again, ppl want the old Em back, he provides a fire verse and still gets shitted on. Also, you give him credit when he “copped” to bad albums, I feel it was the worst thing he did because at that moment he validates all the stupid opinions of these haters instead of just doing him.

    14. The verse was awesome. I hope he redoes the entire album – he hinted at the fact he made those songs to get people fired up so that he would have something to prove again. He is better, much better, when he is angry or attacked. Makes sense as a battle rapper. So this time, he created his own backlash. Either way, the flow and lyrics on this release were quite impressive

    15. Editorials are the opinion of it’s author (although they’re supposed to also represent the opinion of whatever they’re published on to some degree) but this editorialist opinion comes from many one sided views, it’s hard to consider it well thought out.

The best example is this sentence: ” his angry delivery and hyperactive flow disregard the beat, creating a jarring musical experience”, I haven’t seen one person react that way to either the original or remix of Chloraseptic, neither in person or on the internet.

      1. What? This song isn’t fire ? it’s one of the better ones on Revival because it’s more rap than pop but he can do better….much better

    16. On the real this is exactly what Em wanted this was all a set up and joe budden and many reviewers felt for it. Now the real Slim Shady is in attack mode Joe is gonna be his first victim to get diss not but Eminem not by Marshall Mathers but Slim Shady the one that doesn’t give a F**k now comes the Slim Shady LP pt.2. He is now gonna Diss every rapper he dislikes and will do it in a disrespectful way becuz it’s what people have been calling for and it’s Slim Shady is what they have been wanting they have been wanting for Eminem to unleash Slim Shady one more time but it’s gonna be a war. It’s what he always wanted think about it it was all a set up from the jump lol.

      1. I swear y’all stans are just something else. I’m a fan too but you’re way too obsessed with him and out of touch with reality.

      2. Well looks like you were right…. except it was called Kamikaze…. revival was a setup…listen to “Offended” where he says

“(I hope you offended) And drag my name through the mud, through the dirt But I’ma make you eat your words (I hope you offended) You can try to hold me down, but you better let me up ’Cause you’re only gonna make things worse (I hope you offended) ’CAUSE I SWEAR WHEN I GET UP, I’m never gonna let up ’Til everybody eats my turds”

Then on Kamikaze he says revival was a setup and rappers fell it .. lol

        Kamikaze “fall”.
“Somebody tell Budden before I snap, he better fasten it
Or have his body bag get zipped
The closest thing he’s had to hits is smacking bitches
And don’t make me have to give it back to Akademiks
Say this shit is trash again, I’ll have you twisted
Like you had it when you thought you had me slippin’ at the telly
Even when I’m gettin’ brain, you’ll never catch me with a thot
Lacking with it, “He ain’t spit like this in his last shit”
Hoe, you better go back and listen
You know me better, thinkin’ I’ll slow or let up
Call it traps ’cause it’s a total setup
Hopin’ that you rappers fall in that”

He is a marketing genius… dropped revival on purpose got people to talk shit then 9 months later destroys them all… this remix was a hint that he was about to destroy everyone

    17. This is the stupidest way you could criticize Em. People now just making up stuff to try to throw him under the bus. His verse shows he’s completely aware and in-touch with the criticism. He doesn’t have to agree with it. And why would he? It’s his art.

    18. Em says he is hiphop thru and thru but failed to have a few hiphop collabs on Revival despite having a label full of hiphop acts and recording more than 50 songs? I’m not sold. Truth of the matter is Em is now a rapper that makes pop/rock stadium music. There are so many dope hiphop producers and acts that wanna work with him and yet we get Alex da Kid, Rick Rubin etc.. I’m not sold on Revival.

      1. If Em had a bunch of rappers and hip hop producers on his album people would still diss him. Talk about how he cant carry an album on his own anymore and how he use the underground culture to get his career popping again etc. etc. Thats my bet.

      1. Lol Damn was trash hold up Damn was trash and Rivivals a good album that’s honestly what you’re trying to say?

    19. Most successful rappers get to the point where they just can’t win. No matter what they do they get slaughtered. Hip hop fans have always been fickle because there is still a very large element of immaturity out there. Hip hop needs to grow but the fans need to grow with it. I’m not EMS biggest fan but I respect what he does and what he has achieved. I don’t need to go on the internet and call him names . I just try to speak my truth some joints I like some I don’t.

    20. Regardless of What Eminem raps about or sounds like it’s not gunna keep going over well. Em can rap. He can write m he can do all that shit. But the listeners are changing. Kids don’t like the style of music em is dropping and adults don’t care. For shock rap. With that said, For the author(s) to act like Em is trash, and basically imply he’s embarrassed and tryin to get at people for dissing his album is dumb as fuk. Don’t yall got an article to write about something cardi b ate for lunch or Lil kickflip mctwist’s new single… You know, the real hip hop!! If eminem is making trash records, Nas “isn’t hip hop” anymore and Migos are the shit, than I feel bad for hip hop fans to come. Yo dx, ya’ll got anybody working for you that wasn’t born in 1996 or later…hip hop rap whatevr you call it, has died. Now it’s mumble music and spoken word.. RIP hip hop

    21. This is a horrible album. You can tell because he remixed a song already. The album has been out for only a month. If it was a good to great album their would be no reason to remix a song this early. M wanted to be a pop star so stop complaining. You should have known your hip hop fans wasn’t going to like this pop trash. You can’t be a sell out pop artists and hip hop artists at the same time. You have to decide what your going to be because a sell out doesn’t work in the hip hop world. In rap music, most fans don’t know good music from bad that’s why the album still hit charts. How can you have a weak album but still sell a fair amount of records? Rap fans are the worst their messing up hip hop.

    22. If you think Eminem is out of touch and didn’t understand the criticism of Revival then you really didn’t pay attention to the song. You chose the few lines that supported your thesis, but your thesis was shit. He responded to just about everything fans have been saying individually. He doesn’t have to agree with it–it is his art. As far as anyone being out of touch, I would say the author is. Sure, people want Em to quit yelling on beats, but his anger is exactly what makes his music great, and his anger was the biggest contributor to the good parts of revival. Then he turned around and turned that anger into this. That demonstrates he knows exactly what he’s doing. I just don’t think he has the motivation to keep being angry all the time like he used to.

      1. “Sure, people want Em to quit yelling on beats, but his anger is exactly what makes his music great”

Too bad his music is not great and sucks thou.

        1. U wouldn’t know good music even if it was right in ur ear …thw fact he didn’t give u what u wanted don’t mean hes ou5 of touch ..it means hes experienced and makes hes music …he’s music!!! If U fuxs with it fine if not dont say shit thats hes point

    23. The music has been able to achieve what they wanted to ever since Limp Bizkit hit the scene. They are able to invade the Hip Hop Genre with White Rappers… The Music industry has been trying it and trying and they have finally did it.
They merked R&B with the Justin Timberlakes and all the other people who stomped out the majority of artists of color. Its the American way to bleach a genre.
The white rapper is not a new hot fresh thing its common now…
      Trendy…..
Well now the next trend in rap is normalizing homosexuality for males. They already corrupted the female genre. The entertainment industry is on a full fledge assault on the culture.
Eminem now has competition by younger artists who have latched on to the latest sounds in the genre. They have studied black popular music and they have now patterned themselves after more contemporary rappers.
Time has passed and the people are not really that dedicated to hip hop culture its now Pop Music so authenticity and everything has gone out the window.
Everybody is jumping on the bandwagon and capitalizing off of the genre. Hip Hop fans are not fickle but POP fans are….. Rap Music sold its soul and the music industry start making music for white kids in the suburbs. They now have a lot of options .

    24. LMAO at these white boys writing essays in the comment section! “This article is irrelevant. Here’s 3000 words on why”.

      1. because sometimes the ordinary people are more talented in explaining music than these so called” hiphop journalists” !!!!

    25. The main problems about the whole album; choppy flows and mostly honestly bad production. I get it that he wanted to have “modern” sound on his album, but fuck that – trap and Em just aren’t a good fit, if you ask me. Normal hiphop beats + no choppy flows = pretty much guaranteed masterpiece in today’s standards.

    26. So if he does the old Eminem, you criticize it’s “been-there done-that”. And yet, he is so technically gifted, he can easily flips flows to appeal to a trendy new style, but yall claim he’s “selling out”. So, as an ARTIST creating his art, what should he do? WTF? I think the real crime is that young audiences EXPECT to be GIVEN this shit too frequently. This shit is a gift and ya’ll acting like you deserve it. Ya’ll just consumers. Try making art YOURSELF.

    27. Fuck what everyone is saying: based on Eminems verse on here I think he is going to come with a new album that will satisfy all of these critics only to create another batch of new ones. Its the problem when you set the bar but heavy hangs the head I guess

    28. Hes obviously not tone deaf 2 it..walk on wter And this remix prove that…that said em needs 2stop whinig about criticism and make good music aij

    29. Perhaps the people that liked him in the late 90’s / early 2000’s all grew the fuck up and his music just isn’t that interesting anymore….

      1. Bong! I never quite understood the appeal, myself. He can rhyme his heart out, but he’s always been a mediocre artist, imo.

    30. Not only is the music bad but some of his punch lines would even make Lil Wayne cringe now, “girl you going to have to put them other chumps on the back burner, you got buns and I got aspergers” Or ass burgers, stupid Dumb and dumber 2 line. This album makes Encore look like Illmatic, I thought encore sucked when it came out but at least it had a few good songs on it.

    31. I haven’t heard any valid criticism I’ve only heard people bit ching about his not 10 years younger Eminem, to everybody who got butthurt over his verse, you probably deserve it.
Revival is a classic, every song on that album is amazing, what are you guys on about? It was literally the best album in 2017?

You probably just want Eminem to make the same type of albums all other artists have been releasing this year..

There is literally a song for every kind of Eminem fan on that album..

I love the album, I can’t believe people are down talking a classic..

      Shame!

      1. You think Revival is a classic so why would anyone seriously consider you a credible person to debate rap with? You Stans ruined Hip-Hop!

      2. You millenials and the word classic. You think 2 years from now somebody will be quoting lyrics off this and those around them will rap along? FOH. Shoot, Skee Lo’s I Wish is a classic and he ain’t on Ems level. Redefine your vocabulary son. Nothing is “classic” until it runs the test of time….Neanderthal.

    32. Holy shit! Is he whining to fans about his shitty album on a remix verse? Oh Marshall….how the mighty have fallen. I refuse to listen to it in an attempt to keep some of the respect i used to have for this guy. So in like the last 2 months this dude cried that Trump didnt respond to his diss, and cried that people didnt like his bed pan of an album. The mighty Eminem who “just don’t give a fuck” gives a lot more fucks than you think…poor guy

      1. On top of that in the BET safer did he not say that if you don’t agree with him do not be a fan or by his music? Now in this verse he is complaining about Fairweather fans and lack of sales LMAO you can’t make this shit up. Maybe have your fans were Trump supporters em LOL Or the album could just be terrible, I personally wouldn’t know I couldn’t get past a couple of songs. I actually like the Ed Sheeran song all except for what he is actually talking about in the song recycled content but overall the song sounds good

        1. LMAO BRO HE LITERALLY SAYS “took a shot at tan face and cut my motherfuckin fanbase in half and still outsold you” did you literally listen to this song

      2. On top of that in the BET cypher did he not say that if you don’t agree with him do not be a fan or by his music? Now in this verse he is complaining about Fairweather fans and lack of sales LMAO you can’t make this shit up. Maybe half your fans were Trump supporters em LOL Or the album could just be terrible, I personally wouldn’t know I couldn’t get past a couple of songs. I actually like the Ed Sheeran song all except for what he is talking about in the song, recycled content but overall the song sounds good imo

    33. Like I said who wants to hear a 45year old angry white boy masking his lack of soul for complex word play and witty bars! Should have listened to ur core fans

    34. Best mc alive today!! Next to TUPAC RIP..yall could suc a dic or sumthang wit dat new repative pro tune harmony b’s

    35. Wtf did I just listen to (scratching my head) Couldn’t even get half way through it. Had to skip straight to end verse and Listened to less of that then the other two SMH. Can someone tell me why everyone was so mad he cut did to change first of the album? This whole song is just terrible

    36. Great article Aaron. I think people are missing your point. The fact remains that the album is sub par for an artist like Em. At this point he sounds like a rookie in the game (with all the accolades he’s garnered during his career) to go off like this. He HAS admitted in the past that some of his work was meh. With the supposed Budden lines, he’s sounding like he’s targeting one person and redirected his anger and frustrations when in actuality he should be going at his label for steering him towards pop. I understand that they have to keep pushing the artist, make more money, work with Adele, Beyonce or whomever bc more money has to be made. The investment is great. I think there’s another side that we don’t see. In this day in age labels reject submitted content. “Oh, that single hasn’t garnered numbers…oooh, you should do what Migos and lil (insert name) is doing…Ed Sheeran is what’s hot with the ladies…let’s collabo with him but make it an emo song.” I think Ems under a lot of pressure. I refuse to believe he listens to Ed Sheeran or Pink records and ponders “damn, I want to do something with them.” Em, you or your PR etc are reading this. You’re bigger than being salty bc you were told whom to collab with, what sounds mainstream. I agree with Aaron. Go on the 3stacks route. Maintain your greatness with features and side ventures. Maybe one more album that’s way better than this. Don’t be mad. We all drop the ball sometime. We all cave in at times. But keep it moving and be a silent assassin. You doing this aggressive (but dope) verse shows us you still have it, but the frustrations of living up the expectations of your label are hindering you. Once again, great article. Wish for the best with Em. And don’t hate Budden. You can still be a boss, but at times the best constructive criticism comes from your non D riding circle. Peace.

    37. Would someone please hand Mr. Aaron McKrell a muzzle? Preferably one that’s orange…. 😉

See y’all won’t get that “orange” part to the “bitch cherry flavored lozenge jab”. You would need an emergency tracheotomy, screw your cherry-ass chloraseptic, if you even tried rattling off his verse and keeping up word-for-word. Wait but that’s not your point is it? Well guess what? That is MY POINT! You don’t get it. (That wasn’t a very nice thing for me to say was it about someone I know nothing of and do not possess the powers to read his mind??) I know! It isn’t nice is it? ??‍♂️

You don’t have to like Eminem but the bigger issue is how dumb we as Americans are becoming and at a rapid pace. How dangerous it is for our future which won’t be much of one. Most people with the strongest opinions have no concept or knowledge of what they are so damn adamant about. I.e. our embarrassing pathetic president Trump! There is no reason in the world we should have ever been in this situation. Anyone who defends him and says anything contrary are shitty Americans first of all or bigots or idiots. Irresponsible and they love it! How dare me or anyone else with knowledge tell them they can sit the f##k down and quit demanding people to be fired and persecuted for exercising the 1st amendment. They are mad why? Because they want to take separation of church and state (the core belief behind the United States Constitution) and make it “conjunction junction of church and state!” It really pisses me off that the only unpatriotic, un-Americans here are the ones who refuse to accept the law of this land. Therefore they are going to bully it into their way. You know who else that enrages? Another smart dude named Marshall Mathers who cares about his people and has helped more in a good way then the Donald could only dream about! That’s why he is soo pissed off Aaron and not pissed off about his “so called weak” album sales from a very uneducated & weak minded population. He would like to reverse this horrible division and horrible injustice going on every day in every segment of America except within the tiniest 1%. It pisses me off too how no one will bother to learn shit yet they preach their demands on things that are morally wrong to humanity, not some church theory that cannot be a factor here and is against the law. It pisses me off too that music today has to be this dumbed down trap crap because we won’t be able to understand anything important. If Trump’s twitter says something then that’s all we need to know huh? Or if Russia shoots out completely false news stories nonstop where any real news now gets buried then that’s that, huh? And of course they don”t like the truth or the laws because they don’t believe in them due to their hypocrite religious beliefs. So who again is un-American? I do know for a fact any NFL player who feels like he is not being represented and takes a stand for his people can sit, squat and do a dab if he likes rather then stand up and pledge to the flag as he protests the leader who is unjust and not disgracing a flag, is protected by the 1st amendment. You know the one, right? It’s before the only amendment most Americans somewhat understand now since nobody better touch their damn guns made for human combat. What’s been done since Vegas? Not a damn thing! Boy that pisses me off. Then it really pisses me off when I bring this to all’s attention and they fire back with ignorant hate! Now when you make it literally impossible for women to get an abortion you are breaking the law. I do not care about what any church says on the matter. I love my country and I care what the rules are that have been decided by the U.S. Supreme Court. So I get it Em! I get it. I applaud you and you can only do so much. I applaud you for what you have done now by taking your platform and being the damn voice to call out all these white bigots killing black people and are the architects of their misery. Like he said what do you think is going to happen when you throw people in sections with nothing and even filter in the same drugs to these societies that too many have perished from drug abuse, crime, and the same authorities jailing and killing the dealers of this horrible drug THEY brought in? Yep it pisses me off! Only 1 example of this injustice! Em made this album because he felt he had a duty to. Now we take away from it is he is crying about his sales and he’s upset at his fans?? BULLSHIT! Its is about what I said above and what I finish below.

As carefully and somewhat intelligibly written “review”, if that’s what you wanna call it”, by Aaron in which I am not missing any points is nothing more than a grossly careless & inaccurate interpretation of a genius at work. The only naivety displayed in this negligent worded headline is being so brazen to even dare use the word “PROVE he is naive” with such confidence. You aren’t proving anything. You are stating an opinion that PROVES it is not PROOF! Just like y’all don’t get the incredible talent combined with unmatchable wordplay and double….Shit, triple entendres. Then most of you don’t even know or understand what he is saying. There is a difference between understanding what he’s “rapping” phonetically and understanding the meaning behind what he’s “rapping”. Shit those two alone are too complicated I guess?

I’ll really end it Aaron here by saying you really believe you’re in a position to give Eminem, the best lyricist in the world career advice and what to reevaluate? LMFAO! C’mon man show some respect and get the point! ✌?

    38. And this is the problem with the culture Aaron McKrell by this title I know you are a white person..If I’m wrong my apologies But, i’m know you are white I did not google your name either. I respect EM but, i’m not his biggest…THe WHITE take over is in effect ..We lost ROCK MUSIC now it will be HIPHOP…

    39. Dude – the only person out of sync w reality is the author of this ridiculous criticism. I think em’s use of trap music continues an ever growing collection of proof that he can knock it out of the park with any style of music. He fucking kills his verses on the remix. Straight up murders 2chains and Presher, who sound stale and wack. He’s a lyrical genius, can spit better than any rapper out there. Period, end of story.

Personally, I like Revival – different then other albums but awesome in its own way.

Sounds like you’re simply a fair weather fan or maybe a trump supporter with a grudge ?

      1. You just sound like a straight up Stan. It’s okay for the greats to take an L. Problem is, this far in his career it’s too late to drop some trash like this. For example, Nas had Nastradamus. Now, for Nas to drop an even wacker album would be disgraceful and unacceptable to his core fans (I’m one of them and admit it sucked, save 3-4 songs). Relapse is to Em what Nastradamus was to Nas. See where I’m going with this argument? From the fans blatantly calling relapse out to Em admitting on Not Afraid that it was “ehhh” off the Recovery album, you can see the disappointment from everybody that he could even release an even worse album. Call a spade a spade. He’s your fav artist…I get it. But he dropped the ball with this one. Legends can have a terrible album. But to bounce back and then release an even more terrible album?

        1. I thought “Walk On Water” was good. I also like “River.” I think the “Cholraseptic” remix is great. Revival isn’t a home run but you’re being dramatic. It’s a different EM than you’re used too.

Relapse was a good album. Most people liked it. You’re expecting perfection – you want every album to be the MMLP. Time changes, style changes over time, and artists experiment and try new things. Saying Relapse and Revival are terrible is just ignorant.

Did you ever consider Relapse and Revival don’t fit your personal taste?

    40. The real question to me most the time is why idiots like you even get paid to make reviews for music you don’t like anyways, but…they’re pretty worthless opinions when anyone can listen to the songs on their own, and the most you do is write worthless articles you have to replace day after day, but best wishes on that, regardless. It’s a dope track even if you don’t like Em, no hate, your occupation just makes zero sense that it even exists.

    41. The Stannery in here is unbelievable. But then again, I remember being 12 and thinking Em could do no wrong back in the day. The fact is Revival was a horrible album by Em’s standards as well as any rapper’s standards.

He can still rap well but his flow/delivery, which was once one of his strongest assets, is now a weakness and has been for some years now. The beats are terrible from production/mixing, to the bland/boring hooks, and sugar coated pop features. I refuse to believe Em sits around listening to Pink/X Ambassador/Ed Sheeran. He needs real people on the team who can tell him when shit is wack/corny without fear of being fired. Clearly he only has yes men around him.

The biggest thing this remix showed me though that Revival was lacking was confidence and motivation. Em clearly needs a spark lit under his ass because when he does, we get verses like this.

    42. Whatever your opinion is about Revival, wack – ok – or fire… this remix was well needed for Eminem to confirm that ain’t no one in the rap game can mess with him on lyrics or delivery which makes him the best alive in that category….

    43. M needs to retire now. He is a disgrace to the hip hop commumity. Although corny ass rap fans love him because they like garbage. M will never be one of the greatest hip hop artists of all time. M is just another Elvis Presley. Elvis stole black music and went pop. M is a pop star now and has been for a while. Most hip hop fans are pissed off because they were used to give M creditable until enough white pop fans liked him. Once that happened M felt free to leave his so called beloved it hip hop for pop trash. I stopped buying M after the first album because i knew he was going to sellout sooner or later. M screwed up his career forever but he wants to blame me because he is a pop traitor. Burn in hell M!

      1. Get a clue dude. How did he sellout? He’s always been honest and rapped the way he wanted to. He’s older now and wants to try something different, that’s what artists do. Did the Beatles first album sound like their last album? He cant’ rap about the same S he did 15 years ago. A disgrace to the hip hop community? He’s respected by the best rappers of all time. He murdered Jay Z on Renegade. When Kayne and Lil’ Wayne heard his verse on “Forever” they went back an re-wrote theirs because they knew they were going to get clowned. Rappers don’t mess with him because they know he will shred them lyrically. Rakim ranks EM as the best rapper of all time. A lot of people think Rakim is one of the best of all time. You’re statements don’t make any sense. You’re factually wrong. Your post reads as someone who is ignorant and doesn’t know WTF they’re talking about. Please go take an English class while you’re at it.

      2. Em has never sold out. If you think any of his bars are trash, then you’re not listening. Some of his metaphors are just getting lost on an era that favors crap mumble rap over the poetry that rap is supposed to be.

    44. Revival has a lot of issues (I’d give it a 7/10 which is a C-) but if anyone says Eminem’s verse on Chloraseptic remix wasn’t pure fire they’re blind butt hurt clowns.

    45. Revival album is out of this world, but any motherfucker that disagrees should go suck his sick, Em’s voice and fury in Chloraseptic remix is what Em’s gotta watch, but all in all, revival is a bomb and Em is the laden..

    46. Aaron, I know I am 10 days late on this… somehow… I kinda agree with the original album review (although I am warming up to it slowly but surely), and I do like the stuff you write on here.

But dude, I really think you got this one wrong. This verse is absolutely batshit crazy. Again, I agree that he was off-beat on the album, and was hyper-rhyming and stretching on most songs, or too pop on other ones.

His verse here on the remix is incredible. I fell over out of my seat after the kindergarten riddle line.

    47. why should any artist take advice on their own work? It comes from them. You could only be more blatantly biased if you said, “FUCK ENIMEN” #1 wasnt as good as #1 last year. Who pays these clowns for their useless opinions and claims of what youths want with no citation or study

    48. Why knock EM for trying something different? That’s what being an artist is all about. At this point he is the best selling rapper of all time and is the most awarded rapper of all time. What does he have to prove? I say this to critics and Eminem. People want him to be the who he was 15 years ago and that impossible. Even though Eminem has achieved all of this success I believe he is still insecure and it probably stems from his childhood. It’s probably hard to imagine but money, fame, and material items can’t fix emotional and mental issues. I think Eminem is the best rapper of all time. I would rank Eminem #1 and Tupac #2. I always felt BIG and JayZ were a bit overrated. You can compare other rappers to BIG and Jay Z. You can only compare Eminem with himself. I think that’s the tell that he is the best of all time.

    49. I dunno, I think Em might have had part of this up his sleeve the whole time. Put out an album that would upset cats, and cause a stir then use it as a catalyst to bezerk and ending it with a hint of an angry crushing following album. I think also the reaction video part as vaguely told by his circle is also a shot at Joe Budden. I could def see this being a very calculated play by play set up, and if thats the case bravo because its right on track.

    50. yet another Em hater that can’t handle the evolution of a well established rap legend. and Em was NOT imitating a Migos style rap delivery, he did it to prove a point- namely, that it doesn’t take any effort to do that bullshit and thus does make them true emcees. Also, the author is clearly biased as he has written past articles about Em where he ripped apart his solo projects. Worthless article from a worthless, dim witted critic.

    51. This is the most BS article I have ever read.
How can you hate on him at this point, with all the great work he has done. I loved Revival. And I didn’t vote for #45. I’m honestly curious to see a pie chart. Trump and non-Trump supporters who like or dislike the album. I bet you the Trump supporters who like the album slice is small as fuck. Basically, he doesn’t want y’all as fans anymore and his real fans don’t want to be associated with you idiots, either. So, while he takes flak for the album and we take flak for liking it, just know that we take solace in the fact that you’re just a bunch of butt-hurt bitches that need to stay on their side of the sand.
