Eleven years ago, Queens, New York natives Nas and Large Professor graced the cover of Mass Appeal’s 18th issue. Now, Nas is a partial owner of the respected lifestyle magazine and website. Forbes.com reported the undisclosed six-figure investment this morning.

“I always liked what Mass Appeal represented,” Nas told the wealth and business publication. “They invested into the culture … I saw their vision for what they planned and I thought I could add value across the board.”

Nas is not Mass Appeal’s only new investor. White Owl Capital Partners, which is said to be a newer investment group with international holdings, also invested in the quarterly—which is resuming after a five-year print break.

With one of Nas’ onetime collaborators, Ray Benzino having rather notoriously owned a stake in The Source magazine in the 1990s and 2000s, a publication that praised releases from the Boston, Massachusetts rapper/producer. Nas was asked how he will broach such conflict. Responding to what could be potentially written of the Def Jam veteran, Nas said, “I don’t want to see it until it’s out. I won’t get involved with that at all … I won’t touch anything, they’re free to say whatever they want. They can say I’m a psychopath, they can say I’m a sweetheart.”

The full interview on Nas’ business ventures is available at Forbes.com. Mass Appeal’s 52nd issue features Earl Sweatshirt, and an A$AP Family Tree.
