Madlib has expressed his gratitude for the outpouring of support from the public following the destruction of his house, record collection and music equipment during the L.A. wildfires.
Back on January 13, the producer and his manager Stacy Epps shared a link to an online fundraiser to “Help Madlib and His Family Rebuild After Tragic Loss.”

“We are reaching out with heavy hearts to ask for your support in helping legendary producer Madlib and his family rebuild after losing their home, decades of music, and equipment in the devastating LA fires,” they both posted on Instagram.
A week later, on Tuesday (January 21), Madlib’s official Instagram account posted an update.

“Thank you all from the bottom of our hearts for the support, love, encouragement and kind words you have shared during our fundraiser!!” it began.
“It truly has helped Madlib get through one of the most challenging periods in his life, to know that so many care and appreciate his contributions and legacy. The fundraiser is still open if you’d like to support and/or share.”

The message also mentioned “an important tribute and charity project coming soon,” and tagged the IG account @madlovela. The account has no posts at the time of this writing, but the bio says that MadLove LA is “Service & Community Support by Madlib.”
It was initially reported that Freddie Gibbs‘ new album with Madlib had been destroyed in the fire. However, Gibbs recently set the record straight.
In a Reddit post from a fan who met with Gibbs, they claim that they asked the rapper about the status of his forthcoming project with the producer, only for him to reply that it was “lost” in the devastating wildfires that have ravaged L.A. in recent weeks.
“Was at a work event this week and ran into Freddie twice! He walked past me and I was like wtf. Had to say hi when he wasn’t deep in a convo but he was so nice,” they wrote.
“We chatted for a bit and I asked about Madlib who lost his house in the fire and he said they lost an album that was done. Crazy anyways wanted to share!”

After word spread on social media, Gangsta Gibbs jumped on X (formerly Twitter) to clear things up.
“This cap,” he simply wrote in response to a post reporting on the supposedly lost album.
