Freddie Gibbs has set the record straight after it was reported that his new album with Madlib had been destroyed in the Los Angeles wildfires.
In a Reddit post from a fan who met with Gibbs, they claim that they asked the rapper about the status of his forthcoming project with the producer, only for him to reply that it was “lost” in the devastating wildfires that have ravaged L.A. in recent weeks.

“We chatted for a bit and I asked about Madlib who lost his house in the fire and he said they lost an album that was done. Crazy anyways wanted to share!”

After word spread on social media, Gangsta Gibbs jumped on X (formerly Twitter) to clear things up.
“This cap,” he simply wrote in response to a post reporting on the supposedly lost album.

Last week, it was revealed that Madlib had lost his family home in the L.A. wildfires.
In a fundraiser for the producer, his longtime manager Stacy Epps said: “We are reaching out with heavy hearts to ask for your support in helping legendary producer Madlib and his family rebuild after losing their home, decades of music, and equipment in the devastating L.A. fires.

“Your donation, no matter the amount, will provide assistance to help Madlib with immediate personal needs, essentials like clothing, temporary housing, transportation costs and the tools Madlib needs to continue creating the music that has touched so many lives.”
Epps added: “100% of your donations are tax deductible and will go directly to Madlib and his family.”
Madlib first teased a new album with Freddie Gibbs last May at a 10-year anniversary show dedicated to their first collaborative project, Piñata.
DJing at the event in New York City, the Beat Konducta said to the crowd: “Y’all ready for Freddie Gibbs? About to drop this live shit on y’all. Montana next up,” appearing to reveal the album’s title.

In 2023, Gibbs also revealed that he was working on a vast array of new projects including joint efforts with Madlib and The Alchemist.
He told XXL: “I’ma hit y’all with some shit that y’all thought y’all was ready for, but you really ain’t ready for. Alchemist and Madlib ain’t goin’ nowhere, so keep that in mind. And me and Boi-1da in the studio now real, real, real heavy.”

Following Piñata, the pair reunited in 2019 for their second full-length collaboration Bandana, which was also met with rave reviews.
