Sexxy Red has apologized to Martin Luther King Jr.’s daughter, Bernice, for posting an edited photo of her and the late civil rights leader.
In a since-deleted social media post on Monday (January 20) to commemorate Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the “SkeeYee” star uploaded an A.I.-generated image of her and MLK dancing together in a nightclub.

The post caused a stir online, with King’s youngest daughter Bernie, who is an activist herself, leading the chorus of criticism.
“This is intentionally distasteful, dishonoring, deplorable, and disrespectful to my family and my father, who is not here to respond himself because he was assassinated for working for your civil and human rights and to end war and poverty. Please delete,” she wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

King added: “Please don’t project your thoughts onto me. I don’t believe Sexyy Red to be a ‘degenerate,’ ‘ghetto,’ or ‘trash.’ I have spoken out in the past about the use of and comparison to either of my parents to denigrate other people.
“I just don’t understand this type of use of my father’s image (on #MLKDay, no less), in a way that does not convey what we know to be true about his service and sacrifice.

“Even if you disagree with him or with his tactics or even believe things said about him by people who hated him, why do this?”
Sexyy Red quickly admitted that the picture was in bad taste, replying: “You ain’t wrong, never meant to disrespect your family my apologies. Just resposted something I saw that I thought was innocent.”

This is not the first time that the St. Louis native has found herself in hot water over political matters.
In October 2023, Sexyy Red ruffled feathers by revealing that she was a huge fan of Donald Trump.
“I like Trump,” she said in an interview with comedian/podcaster Theo Von. “Yeah, they support him in the hood. At first I don’t think people was fucking with him. They thought he was racist, saying little shit against women.
“But once he started getting Black people out of jail and giving people that free money. Aww baby, we love Trump. We need him back in office. We need him back because, baby, them checks. Them stimulus checks. Trump, we miss you.”

The 26-year-old later distanced herself from Trump and revealed that she voted for Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential election, which the Democrat ended up losing.
