After a few spot dates in Denver, Austin and Jackson Hole, Wyoming, Cut Chemist, the talented Jurassic 5 turntablist/DJ, is back with another episode of his A Stable Soundpodcast. Titled “Ladies First” and done on the fly, the nearly two-hour mix takes a political approach to the civil unrest in our country right now. As the first show of 2017, it welcomes special guests Mathieu Schreyer of KCRW and a special pop-in guest, Brewery Town Beats, who talks about his reissue project with the legendary soul/funk group Magnum.
“It aired on the day of the Women’s March and after the inauguration, so that’s all it represented,” Cut tells HipHopDX. “It was pretty solid for a freestyle show.”
As indicated by the title, the episode also celebrates the Women’s March, as Marvski mixes up some classic female rap songs like Queen Latifah’s “Ladies First,” as well as Moog pioneer Jean-Jacques Perrey’s birthday and the inaugural get down of the Funk Off Moviemix, a 30-minute short film set to the French industrial mega mix Cut did in 2015.
Mike Styles kicks off the show with some resistance music from around the world including a classic from the recently departed William Onyeabor. Listen above.
