Ice Cube, who starred in the 1997 film Anaconda as cameraman Danny Rich, took to Twitter to shout out the movie and offer a few thoughts on his time in the cult classic to commemorate its 25th anniversary.

“When they asked me to do Anaconda, I said I’d do it only if my character lived and help kill the snake,” Cube tweeted out on Monday (April 11). “Before then, most Black people in these type of movies are dead within the first 15 minutes.”

Alongside the tweet, Ice Cube shared the climactic moment in the film when he and Jennifer Lopez’s protagonist, Terri Flores, break free and begin the final showdown with the anaconda after it feasts on Jon Voight’s character Paul Serone.

The film was a blockbuster smash, but critics eviscerated the film, with Jon Voight’s character going on to win a Stinkers Bad Movie Award for Worst Supporting Actor and Worst Fake Accent. Still, Anaconda grossed a whopping $136.8 million and spawned multiple sequels, none of which Cube starred in.
