When you’ve been winning for more than a quarter century, the bucket list is usually pretty short — like a G.O.O.D Music album in 2018. For independent juggernaut Tech N9ne, there are only really a handful of conquests left to fulfill, including working with Dr. Dre and getting a verse from JAY-Z.

In one of the highlights of the last month of #DXLive, Tech came through HipHopDX HQ while he was in town with labelmates Krizz Kaliko and Joey Cool. During the appearance, the Strange Music CEO revealed he’s trying to turn a collab with DJ Premier into a reality.

“[DJ Premier and I] have been talking for a while,” he said. “I’ve got him in my phone under ‘Homeboy’ cause that’s my homeboy, and we always talk about how we’re gonna get work in, but we’re both so busy all the time. I don’t know [exactly when it’s going to happen] ’cause I just dropped a record, Planet, and we’re steady chopping away at singles for it.”

Outside of music, Tech’s also got some interesting collaborations brewing, including his own beer. According to him, it’s an endeavor he never saw himself getting into.

“I had no ‘idear’ that I would ever sell beer, and now it’s here,” Tech rhymed. “[Boulevard Brewing Company] approached us and they were like, ‘You ever thought about taking the flavors of ‘Caribou Lou’ and putting it with beer?’ And I was like, ‘No, I have not.’ They invited us down, let us taste it.

“We were like, ‘Wow!’ That was last year when we got to taste it, so we’ve been building ever since trying to come up with the right name. It’s such a wonderful collaboration. I never thought that I would be selling beer, and this one is one that I’m very proud of. And this is the beginning of a relationship that will keep going.”

Tech might be embarking on a drink empire of his own with more to come.

“K.C. Tea will follow it and hopefully Sprockets,” he noted. “All of our drinks that we’ve been talking about for years. I created ‘Caribou Lou’ in 1995, so after all these years, ‘Caribou Lou’ just keeps popping up. First, it went gold, then it went platinum, and now here comes ‘Caribou Lou’ beer.”

Tech wasn’t the only one in the building with a budding career outside of music. His right hand man Krizz Kaliko has also been finding success with his vocal talents.

“I just started doing [voiceovers] too,” Kaliko said. “I was trying to get in a couple of cartoons and a couple of movies. I actually put out a couple of demos and did some reads for a couple of big companies, and I’m waiting on stuff to come back. I was actually trying to do the Transformers cartoon, and I got beat out by the guy that does Optimus Prime.

“I was at their office at Warner Bros. and they were like, ‘You don’t have any demo.’ And I [just started doing it], ‘I am Optimus Prime,’ and they were like, ‘We probably need to use you.’ And if I got beat out by Peter Cullen, who voices Optimus Prime, then I’m OK. And then I did Megatron and I lost that job to Mark Hamill.”
