This week, Mobb Deep’s Havoc sent shockwaves through the Hip Hop community by putting him on blast on Twitter, stating that he had homosexual affairs with men in prison and that he was a “fake Jay-Z.” He later denied it in a statement, though Prodigy didn’t refute that the tweets were legitimate. Meanwhile, Q-Tip signed with Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. Music, with plans to drop his new album The Last Zulu on the imprint and Def Jam in 2013. Nicki Minaj had the best week ever with her sophomore album Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded, debuting at number one on the charts with 253,000 copies sold.

Havoc Blasts Prodigy On Twitter, Later Denies It Was Him

This week was a rough one for the legacy of Mobb Deep. On Monday, Havoc allegedly lashed out at his partner Prodigy on Twitter, slamming him for being a “fake Jay-Z” and insinuating that he had homosexual relations while in prison. Nearly a day later, he finally issued a statement claiming that his phone was stolen at a gas station, while some speculated that he tweeted from both his iPhone and his computer, thereby nullifying his claims. Prodigy tweeted that “we set traps,” implicating that the whole thing was a setup, while some sources close to Mobb Deep claimed that Havoc’s tweets were legitimate and that they would never release another album again. HipHopDX speculated on if this was a brand killer, while Fat Joe tossed his hat into the ring, calling that day the 9/11 of Hip Hop.

Nicki Minaj Debuts At Number One With Pink Friday: Roman’s Revenge

The Harajuku Barbie debuted big. After releasing her sophomore album Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded last week, Nicki Minaj found herself at the top of the Billboard charts, selling 253,000 copies in its first week. While her album bowed at the peak spot, producers Ryan and Smitty discussed making the standout track “HOV Lane,” explaining how they concocted the beat. “[M]e and Ryan got together and started making all kinds of crazy beats, with her in focus and the sound they wanted,” said Smitty. “Eventually we sent something to them. And Safaree hit us back saying she really likes it. From there, she had us make a couple of changes to the beat to make it for her liking and from there it was pretty much automatic. It was really exciting. Shows you how far proper connections can take you in the business.”
