Hip Hop Album Sales: Drake’s “Scorpion” Maintains Stranglehold On Billboard 200

Drake is continuing to dominate the Billboard charts. Drizzy’s latest album, Scorpion, held on to its No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200 for the fourth week in a row.

The OVO head honcho’s position atop the chart helped give Hip Hop a heavy presence in the Top 10. Six of this week’s Top 10 albums come from Hip Hop artists, including Post Malone and Cardi B.

Elsewhere on the chart, The Internet scored a Top 30 debut with their new album Hive Mind. 88rising also managed to crack the Top 100 with the release of the collective’s Head In The Clouds compilation.

    Drake Remains On Top

Although Drake has some tough competition coming in August, July has been all about Drizzy on the charts. For the fourth week in a row, his Scorpion album secured the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200.

Scorpion beat out its closest contender, Post Malone’s Beerbongs & Bentleys, by over 100,000 total album equivalent units for the week. Drake’s double LP moved 184,286 units with just under 15,000 of them being pure album sales.

    The Internet’s Back

The Internet released their first album in three years and cracked the Top 30 in doing so. The Odd Future-affiliated band’s Hive Mind debuted at No. 26 off the strength of selling 15,725 total album equivalent units.

Almost half of the units moved came from pure album sales. Syd and the crew raked in 6,944 units in traditional sales.

    88rising Debuts At No. 76

The 88rising collective managed to get into the Top 100 with their new compilation, Head In The Clouds. While the project was mostly a showcase for the group’s artists, it also featured contributions by rappers such as GoldLink, Playboi Carti and BlocBoy JB.

Head In The Clouds debuted at No. 76, mostly thanks to streaming. The compilation only managed to sell 1,166 copies in traditional sales but was still able to rack up 9,130 total album equivalent units, thanks to about 10.7 million streams.

    1. Drake got the game on lockdown. Someone will dethrone Drake one day, but it’s not gonna be Pusha T. The people have spoken.

      1. Your mother was right you are a weird mf’er bro. No wonder your father left you. Nobody has listened to Daytona since the week after it came out. Nobody checking in on Push except you dusty ass middle men. Drake is the supplier and push is a dime rock seller at best, just like your father. And dude Ill beat you like your mom used to before she stopped caring.

    2. we just recibe this information: drakes music is still trash…….. i repeat……..drake music is still trash……….its confirmed

    3. Damn!! I was going out of whack without an article about Drake must of been god’s plan hhhmm…did Drake say which God?

    4. “They gotta make some choices they running out of options cause I’ve been going off and they don’t know when it’s stopping….”

    5. 180k but less than 15k were actual albums… This is exactly why numbers are meaningless anymore. Some 15yo girl spins the same single on Spotify 10 times and Drake gets an “album sale”. Literally they’re saying Drake sold 5 albums when in reality some little girl just streamed the same song 50 times before she got tired of it.

      1. It could’ve been a little or it could even be some guy in a humid overcrowded building in Pakistan being payed pennies to to play the songs on rotation for pennies per hour using uncapped wifi. The truth went out of fashion long ago in this brave new world of ours.

    6. we just recibe this information: drakes music is still trash…….. i repeat……..drake music is still trash……….its confirmed

    7. Drake 6 albums currently charting, people can’t stop listening to what they can relate to.

    8. All these fake numbers and streams. Supposedly dude has outsold the Beatles and MJ etc according to these new “streaming” numbers, yet he has half the money of Kanye and one ninth of Jay Z’s money? Kind of strange right? I’m sure Baby, Q. Miller but not Shitbib could explain how that worked out. Hahahaha. Ass clowns.

      1. Tbh this new stream b.s is nonsense it’s not being scrutinised properly, it’s part of this great agenda to dumb people down to the point where critical thinking like the kind you displayed in your comment sounds out of place. The guys running the propaganda machine called American Media do in fact artificially create “stars” provided the music they make serves their agenda to further dumb down and numb people until they believe what ever nonsense the talking box in their sitting room tells them. AKA Russia hacked US elections, we can’t give you proof of this but if we say it enough times you will believe it. The war in Syria has nothing to do with Syria teaming with Iran to undermine the PetroDollar empire, Assad just conveniently became an overnight tyrant.

    9. Wyoming flopped, Pusha and Ye stretched as far as humanly possible to destroy drake but it completely backfired on em, Jay hopped on a drake track to jab YE and put even more money in drakes pocket, and now pusha t has slashed his tour in half. Pusha T was right, definitely a surgical summer

    10. Congratulations to Drake, but you drake stans need get out your mom’s basement. The guy is pop superstar, he’s not competing with Pusha T, ASAP Rocky or even Kendrick half is album is shit I haven’t listened to more than once. It’s a pop album. Pop doesn’t mean singing like Taylor swift it just mean it’s radio music the shit you hear playing in the mall. That’s why he can make a song like upset calling his baby mama a hoe and girls sing along to it because it’s not suppose to impart anything of substance to the listener it’s pop music. Same shit with Uzi and Carti and I’m huge fan of those two guys, but their music is catchy, beyond that it has zero substance and won’t do anything for you except get your endorphins raging.

    11. The hottest album in the streets right now where I’m from is the new Silkk The Shocker album IWALSL that album is fire the Tank might be on a comeback

    12. Nobody gives a shit about Drake 15-20 years later from now. Still listening to your garbage music because it’s “relevant” true hip hop will always be relevant

      1. Pray you be around 15-20 years from now…..we shall see if nobody will give a shit about Drake by then……i guarantee you will be disappointed my guy…..
