Very few in Hip Hop culture these days are supporting Donald Trump because of his controversial stances on immigration and Black Lives Matter, but apparently Chingy, at least initially, was one of the few.
Taking to Twitter Friday (January 22), the St. Louis rapper declared his support for the GOP frontrunner, but presumably didn’t know the kind of backlash that would entail. “Politics vs society,” he tweeted. “People should innerstand that politics is a business jus like the job you work at. I vote for @realDonaldTrump “YEP” 3.”
Well, this caused upheaval amongst his followers and social media in general, which prompted him to follow up with a tweet about his previous one being taken out of context. He then went to YouTube in a follow-up to that and explained more in length why he actually doesn’t support Trump.
“I didn’t know about some of the negative things he had to say about some of the races out here and about the hip-hop community,” Chingy said in the video titled “I DO NOT endorse Donald Trump”. “I didn’t know a lot of the negative things, I was kind of commenting off reading that article and reading some of the good things that he said, so that’s kind of where my comments came from.
“Every now and then I see some of it on TV,” he continued. “I’m not familiar with exactly how it’s going down. And that’s another reason why I didn’t know a lot of the negative things he said. Like a lot of people comparing him to Hilter and stuff and a lot of those things, I didn’t know these things. So when I seen the good he said, I was like, Oh that’s cool that Donald Trump be trying to do that.”
When it comes to Hip Hop and the 2016 presidential election most are supporting Democrats. Folks like Jeezy, Kanye West and Waka Flocka Flame have previously voiced their support for Hillary Clinton. Killer Mike has been campaigning with Sen. Bernie Sanders for the past few weeks.
