Why Is Taylor Swift Still Obsessed With Kanye West?

Why Is Taylor Swift Still Obsessed With Kanye West?

Pop princess Taylor Swift dropped her new album Reputation on Friday (November 10). Her fans squealed with delight that their beloved “Tay-Tay” was back, but Hip Hop enthusiasts were busy celebrating (or condemning) Eminem’s “Walk On Water” and N.E.R.D.’s return with “Rollinem 7’s” featuring André 3000. But there is a crossover between the two genres — Swift can’t stop talking about Hip Hop luminary Kanye West.

Beginning with “Look What You Made Me Do,” Swift seems to delivers a few subtle references about her nemesis. She sings, “I don’t like your little games/ Don’t like your tilted stage/ The role you made me play/ Of the fool, no, I don’t like you,” which sounds like a jab aimed at West’s stage set-up he used during 2016’s Saint Pablo Tour.

It’s more blatant on the song “This Is Why We Can’t Have Nice Things” with lines like, “It was so nice being friends again/ There I was, giving you a second chance / But you stabbed me in the back while shaking my hand.”

At the 2015 MTV VMAs, West and Swift seemed to have reconciled, but evidently that didn’t last. Throughout the song, Swift sounds like a jilted lover devastated that she got played.

She goes on to sing, “Friends don’t try to trick you/ Get you on the phone and mind-twist you/ And so I took an axe to a mended fence,” likely a reference to Swift’s social media war with Kim Kardashian-West about the “Famous” song, one of 19 tracks on West’s Life Of Pablo.

“I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex/ Why? I made that bitch famous (Goddamn)/ I made that bitch famous,” he raps.

In 2016, the reality television mogul released the audio of a phone call between her husband and Swift where West tells her about the references to her on “Famous.” During the call, Swift gave him permission to use the line in the song, but Ye conveniently (and perhaps maliciously?) left out the second part, “Why? I made that bitch famous.”

As Swift’s “This Is Why We Can’t Have Nice Things” continues, she touches on Yeezy’s fall-out with JAY-Z. “But I’m not the only friend you’ve lost lately/ If only you weren’t so shady,” she sings.

Whatever her ongoing obsession is with West, it’s been nearly nine years since West all but snatched her Moonman award out of her hands in the name of Beyonce at the 2009 MTV VMAs, so it’s hard to envision that she’s still bitter about that.

Maybe she’s still fuming that West called her a “fake ass” during a backstage rant at Saturday Night Live in 2016. Maybe the scene in West’s “Famous” video where Yeezy is laying down to the naked replica of Swift keeps her up at night. Maybe she’s still seething that West bragged about his wife leaking the phone call, or maybe West acts as some kind of security blanket for the pop star. As long as she’s singing about him, her name will pop up in the headlines.

You’d think she’d have something better to do than worry about what West is doing. She’s young, wealthy beyond imagination, reportedly in love and a massive pop star. I don’t know about you, but if I don’t like someone, I’m sure as hell not going to keep talking about them.

Not to mention, the Graduation mastermind endured a mental breakdown last year. It looks more like little “Tay Tay” is the bully in this case.

Word to the wise: just let it go.

    1. say what u say about Taylor but “Ready for it” is a really good track. the music video is crazy and littered with ur typical i11uminati symbolism (starting from the thumbnail of the video on YouTube). i been watching it like twice a day since it was first released.

        1. that’s ur opinion, and just ur opinion. not the absolute truth. just like my opinion is not the absolute truth, but just an opinion. isn’t it great we can have opinions that differ? wouldn’t the world be a boring place if we all agreed on everything.

            1. they might be mexican though, it would be playing the stereotype. It’s like BLM people saying a five letter word. I can’t call other white people my cracka as that would be deemed racist by people with not much meaning in life (aka sensitive people, people with identity issues)

      1. GReatest comment of all time. NOt really, but 600 likes is legendary. Somehow expressing that you enjoy a Taylor Swift song makes you a racist bigot nowadays, lmfao.

    2. Okay, for one, Taylor has not mentioned Kanye at all here, thats just conjecture, and two if anyone’s obsessed its the other way round, Kanye, the whiney b@stard is still banging on about it years later on ‘Pablo’. Why the fucc is this even an article? Hang on, why the fuck am I even commenting on this shit?

    3. of course they will attack T-Swizzle because she dared retaliate. “Pablo” not a saint but a sinner.. he a false prophet.. all for profit.

    4. Taylor is a MUCH BIGGER STAR Worldwide than mentally unstable yeezy! and NO she’s not ‘obsessed’ with him, but being the erratic coo-coo bully that he is, she’s just stating her feelings in songs rather than try to argue with a dumb narcissist! She sold a MILLION Albums in the last 30 hours, mental patient ye hasn’t done that in the last YEAR…. he and his amateur porn star wife, are shunned by her, Jay-Z, Beyonce and most everyone with a brain. Starting a ‘streaming’ service?! yeezy music?! nicca PLEASE! It takes a zillion great songs and artists to make a Spotify fly and one erratic egomaniac whose music has steadily declined in quality ever year, is NOT gonna cut it, it would lose hundreds of millions of dollars out the gate………….more like a ‘dreaming’ service!

      1. I can tell you’re a dumb white woman since you’re talking about how much she’s sold and how Kanye hasn’t done anything this year even though he put out an album and tour last year and Taylor up until this point took a 2 year break. Sales within the last 30 hours are irrelevant to your argument. They don’t mean anything so why even bring them up? Taylor may be the biggest artist in the world sales wise (and that’s due to a mindless a teenage girl fan base), but everyone knows Kanye is the cultural icon. So don’t act like or even try to make your argument about Taylor being more successful than him when he’s already done half her career half a decade ago and is still more culturally relevant and accepted than she’ll ever be because you know why? Because no one thinks Taylor Swift is actually cool regardless of sales other than dumbasses like you. Now go back to your Taylor Swift fan site

    5. After seeing jordan face recieve over 600 lit likes for there comment defending Taylor swift, I am now questioning this site readers. Im on Yezzy side for hip hop, for the culture. Taylor played herself, got caught , using Kanye as a platform to become bigger. The more dis she has on Yezzy the more listens she will get from the hiphop fan base. That’s a culture she didn’t tap into b4 the ye drama. Like yezzy said he feels like Taylor owes him sex. He is right. He made her a bigger star because of that drama and media fuels her attention. Yezzy was right bout Bey should had won video of the year. Put a ring on it was culture defining idk what vid taylor won that award for. Yezzy been woke since that day. Smh @ white power

      1. Well obviously he is “Team Tay Tay”. But if you actually _READ_ his comment he likes the new single and the music video of Taylor Swift. A lot of people do. The album Reputation is getting good reviews and selling like crazy. The music video he mentioned has been so far watched like 90 million times. So yeah, people seem to dig it.

    6. He jabs her, she jabs him…
It’s just more relevant when he does it because he did it right after the fights… maybe she was just sitting on those lyrics for too long? Either way, I don’t care about either of them..

    7. Kanye is a Kardashian, a with that said he does have great music in his catalogue. Kim uyodla beyond retirement.

    8. Umm… Pretty sure it’s Mr. West who is obsessed. Over her. Because he is deeply racist so duh, of course he hates her. She’s white, You know.

    9. I think we can all agree that Kanye is the douche here and Kyle is the one that needs to let it go. Let it go kyle.

    10. Is this a joke? Kanye can make a song talking fantasizing about intercourse with her while taking credit for her fame, but if she has a few lines that are selectively interpreted as responding, suddenly SHE is the one who is obsessed? I love Kanye, but his song was pretty blatantly disrespectful to Taylor and his wife and family. I don’t even think any of the lines this writer claims were retaliatory actually were. Saying you lowkey think she still has a bone to pick would barely be reasonable, calling her “obsessed” is objectively just plain ignorant. Also, stop deleting my comments HHDX.

    11. Did someone notify a tay tay fan website about this article? Bc I swear there can’t be Taylor fans on this website (regulars) except for trolling Jordan face

    12. Kanye launched her career in a perfect way as the current industry is only fueled by social media narcissism and rumours.

    13. Neither of them can let it go it seems. Ultimately it was Kanye who started the whole thing, and keeps it going, so I don’t see why Taylor is the target of this article. Then again, she’s a republican white rich bratty silicone titted attention-seeking Trump voter who I can’t stand, so I’m not going to take her side on damn near anything. But in an ideal world I wouldn’t have to read her name on a hip hop news site. Yes, Kanye made that bitch famous, but buying a token Kendrick Lamar verse for a single doesn’t qualify her to be written about here.

        1. They are still not big but they 100% certain were suddenly bigger about 18 months ago after a couple of weeks of her being out of the spotlight, and ever since then she has been noticeably showing them off. She thought she could gradually creep up on people but no one gets past the eagle eye of the Titspector. The photos tell no lies.

    14. Kanye is Great and that’s a known fact… but man, this is a reach!
Seems like a hurt Kanye fan made these assumptions…
      1) NO pop start writes their own songs entirely, so don’t write an article like its a rap beef lol
      2) all of “her” quotes are vague which sound JUST like what ANY woman says to ANY man
      3) and MOST OF ALL this article ain’t Hip Hop!! lol seems like someone is more “OBSESSED” with Swift & Kanye, than they are lol

    15. 600 plus likes for Taylor Swift over Yeezy at a hip hop site? Really? Easy to point out who got her by googling Swift and aren’t into hip-hop at all

    16. Anyone who thinks Kanye doesn’t have talent should listen to some tracks from 2010 and earlier then see the looks on they faces tho I will give Taylor some credit for not going out for weekly silicone expansions just to sell an extra 100,000 albums
