Sometimes Hip Hop can move at a pace too frantic for even the most devoted fan to keep up with. Albums and mixtapes are released at breakneck speed, careers are made and broken with the swipe of a pen, and somewhere in between all the madness actual music (the quality of which vacillates between excellent and god awful) is being made. Twitter provides a nice summary of everything 140 characters at a time. And if you’re the type that would rather not be bothered with stepping into the Twitterverse to catch up on the latest in Hip Hop, we’ve filtered through the top rapper’s tweets and consolidated all the week’s events into one convenient feed.
This week, Wiz Khalifa talks to his haters, DJ Premier thanks Bun B for a phone call on the day of Guru’s passing and DJ Green Lantern remembers Illmatic on Illmatic Day. Check the rest of the week’s top tweets below.
Wiz Khalifa Thinks Own Single Is A Smash
Wiz Khalifa may have gone auto-tune heavy with this latest single, “We Dem Boyz,” but that doesn’t stop him from thinking his song is the hottest song of the season. Twitter is full of users sending their nasty unsolicited criticism via 140 characters from the safety of their bedrooms and with 13.6 million followers, the mean tweets get lost in the mix. Even if Wiz did see them, he sent along a simple message: If you don’t like his song then you could go “fucc yourself.” Straight to the point. But then again the Detail-produced track is catchy as hell.

Childish Gambino Fed Up With Labels
Following the improper release of his music video for “Sweatpants,” Childish Gambino took to Twitter to air out some quick thoughts. The entire rant included multiple tweets like, “We were told a lot of things were gonna happen and they were all lies,” and “someone buy me out of this contract.” Gambino also addressed that the music video incident “wasn’t handled correctly.” This isn’t the first time Gambino, who vented out to 13 million sets of eyes on Instagram, has cut out the middle man and talked directly to his fans. Now, that’s how you use a Twitter account.
Ice Cube Clears Up Paul Walker Comments
Let’s start at the beginning. Ice Cube is not a sore loser. He repeats, “Ice Cube is not a sore loser.” “I was born losing. This winning shit is what I gotta get use to.,” adds Cube to one of his first tweets after implying that Paul Walker (and Vin Diesel) won best onscreen duo at the MTV Movie Awards because of a “sympathy” vote. Cube and Kevin Hart were nominated for best onscreen duo in Ride Along but lost to Paul Walker and Vin Diesel in Fast & Furious 6. Ice Cube felt like he was “robbed” but later clarified his statements with a series of tweets explaining his feelings on the matter.

YG And The Blood Moon
On Monday, the moon was tinted red and labeled a “Blood Moon” total lunar eclipse. It was hard to resist tying in the “Blood Moon” to YG, who has Blood affiliations. His fans did it anyways. He received a few pictures via Twitter of a red moon and how he caused the moon to be a “Blood Moon.” This particular fan gave the moon two red bandanas and had the “Blood Moon” throw up the Blood sign. In case you’re wondering how this happened, My Krazy Life did it.
Jay Electronica Drunk Tweets, Says He Has The Best “Control” Verse
Jay Electronica’s drunk tweets are gems. Yesterday, Jay found himself at the MGM sippin’ on some coconut Ciroc whilst at the crap tables. The smoke-filled air mixed with vodka must have prompted the usually quiet emcee to let loose and get real on Twitter. In a long series of tweets, Jay Elect answered questions, shared thoughts and let us know that he had the best verse on “Control.” He also added in that Kendrick Lamar had the third best verse because K. Dot didn’t “really say anything.” The best question asked was, “Why you let Drake have tea with Erykah, man.” Check out his response, here

Casey Veggies Bonds Through “West Coast” With Lana Del Rey
Earlier this week, singer Lana Del Rey released a rock-influenced slow jam titled “West Coast” and of course, the title grabbed the attention of West Coasters, including Casey Veggies. It’s always interesting to see what kind of music, rappers listen to, outside of rap (because that’s a given).
Outkast Performs At Coachella Weekend #2
The first weekend must have been a trial run because Outkast and their fans seemed to have a great time during the group’s 90-minute set. Janelle Monae and Future did not join the duo on stage which actually freed up more room to include songs that weren’t performed due to time constraints last week. Reports rang that Andre 3000 seemed like “a man renewed.” Two festivals down and 342984023 more shows to go for Big Boi and Andre 3000. For a recap on Coachella weekend #2, click here.
