Review: Beyoncé & JAY-Z’s “EVERYTHING IS LOVE” Is Pure Musical Matrimony

Beyoncé and JAY-Z — collectively known as The Carters — caused mass hysteria on social media when they released EVERYTHING IS LOVE on Saturday (June 16). But to fully understand their surprise joint album, it’s imperative to at least have some knowledge of Mr. and Mrs. Carter’s tumultuous past, which includes infidelity, the infamous elevator fight and a man who claims to be Hov’s secret son.

With nine tracks and 38 minutes of some of their most private thoughts spilled out on wax, EVERYTHING IS LOVE is like an audio diary of a complicated — yet rich — love affair. Much like Beyoncé’s sweet and sour LEMONADE and Jay’s repentant 4:44, it puts everything on the table. But this time, the billionaire power couple rights their wrongs and moves toward reconciliation and healing.

From the breezy, hopefulness found on “SUMMER” to the unapologetic bravado on “NICE,” Bey sounds indestructible as if she’s rebuilt the once-crumbling confidence caused by her husband’s past indiscretion.

Not only do we get Beyoncé flawlessly rapping (leading many to crown her the new Queen of Rap), but we also get Jay watching the throne like his legacy depends on it, leaving Hip Hop’s young bucks in the wake of his grown-man raps.

See the scathing line on “NICE,” where Hov vents, “Y’all drag me in court for that shit, y’all backwards/ After all these years of drug trafficking, huh/ Time to remind me I’m black again, huh?” or “Since the Kalief doc, they’ve been at my neck/ Y’all can tell ’em Trayvon is comin’ next/ The SEC, the FBI or the IRS/ I pass the alphabet boys like an eye test” on “Black Effect,” Jay tackles heavy topics but with the eloquence of the tenured MC he is.

Endless Hip Hop references are also peppered all over the album. For example, on “713” the Carters trace back the origins of their union with a celebratory “Still D.R.E.” chorus interpolation as Jay slyly collects an extra publishing check for originally penning the West Coast anthem.

Over the dreamy soundscape of “HEARD ABOUT US,” Jay shoots down the rumor he’s been hiding a child for 24 years with, “Billie Jean in his prime/ For the thousandth time, the kid ain’t mine,” while he smoothly rebukes the multiple lawsuits pending against him on the aforementioned “NICE.”

Then with the anthemic “APESHIT,” they’re able to take a fresh approach to the current wave of trap-infused beats and elevate it, complete with assistance from Migos rappers Quavo and Offset. It’s here Beyoncé shows off her frenetic rap skills and Jay reminds his fans why he refused to perform at Super Bowl LII, a clever shoutout to activist Colin Kaepernick.

“I said no to the Super Bowl: you need me, I don’t need you,” he raps. “Every night we in the endzone, tell the NFL we in stadiums too.”

While Hov doesn’t call out any of his perceived adversaries by name, he does throw out a few subliminal shots, specifically on “FRIENDS.” Here, Jay addresses his cold war with Kanye West, something ‘Ye talked about during a recent interview with Charlamagne Tha God. Although West confessed he was hurt by the Carters not attending his wedding, the Hip Hop mogul has a reasonable explanation for that. Simply put, his family comes first.

“I ain’t goin’ to nobody nothin’ when me and my wife beefin’,” Jay snaps before adding, “I don’t care if the house on fire, I’m dyin’, nigga I ain’t leavin’ … If y’all don’t understand that, we ain’t meant to be friends.”

Like a phoenix rising from the ashes, Beyoncé and Jay emerge stronger than ever on the final track “LOVEHAPPY,” which finds some of Bey’s most voracious lines about the affair and Mr. Carter still trying to extinguish the flames.

“You fucked up the first stone, had to get remarried/ (Yo chill…)/ We keepin’ it real with these people right/ Lucky I didn’t kill you when I met that b –/ (Aight aight),” they playfully rap back and forth as they leave the drama in the rearview.

Sonically speaking, EVERYTHING IS LOVE benefits from the sophisticated palates of two superstars and integrates reggae, soul, R&B and boom bap throughout but in a way that’s entirely seamless. Trustworthy studio gurus including Pharrell, Vinylz, !llmind and Mike Dean all pitch in for instrumentals that are both opulent and demure in their presentation.

While their marriage may have its flaws, EVERYTHING IS LOVE frankly doesn’t. It’s a storybook ending for two people crazy in love who never gave up on each other — or their craft.

    1. You know what? On a commercial scale? I have to agree with this. I had pretty much written Jay off until 444 and he’s even more sharper on this joint. Never been much of a Beyonce fan either but she got busy too. Great album. Was pleasantly surprised I can not lie

    2. Not there best at all. I feel like fans rate based on stardom. Just because they are the hottest couple doesn’t mean everything they do is classic. This was pure promotion for the tour, and DX making it seem like it’s the best thing they’ve ever heard. This is one of those reviews that makes a person stop coming to the site. I hate biased journalism. Fans are craving a classic so bad that they will call anything a classic. Just let Murs rate everything for now on. The other ones suck. Y’all gotta do better. It’s your duty to report unbiased newsletters. That includes reviews.

      1. God your ignorance and ego are both so loud here. No one cares if you stop coming to this site haha. Get over yourself.

      2. I think their stardom is the problem with y’all. If u really listen there are hella good subjects as far as black love, wealth, us vs America, friends and family, and even gave us a little inside gossip, along with fun music in there. Yes who made it plays a part. It’s all one project. It’s a married couple… all things are considered and not just who they are

    3. lol 5 out of five so this is up there with tha greatest albums in music history . WOW Smh. this is right next to any of the greatest Hip Hop Albums or albums period lol. your opinion. So this is up there with biggie life after death , Lauryn Hill miseducation, Erykah badu baduizm, Outkast Aquemini, Mobb Deep infamous…… Scarface fix…… lol the earth wind and fires, Michale jacksons , Jimi hendrix……. just all the greats with this LMFAO….. this is a strong 2 at best…. its not even unique or groundbreaking in anyway except its husband and wife. two older people trying to be young and hip … two parents…..

      1. Why would you compare this Beyonce album to Mobb Deep and Scarface??? ??? was that last Rihanna album better than Raekwon’s album? Was Tinashe better than Kool G rap? Wtf Brodie

    4. You can tell that Jay and Beyoncé meticulously took their time and put this joint together.

    5. Ok Nasir got 3.8 and this got a 5 out of 5?? I’m a fan of both. jay and nas have been my fav for years but this is not 5 out of 5 nor will this ever be labeled a classic. And yes I think Nasir was better but that’s just my opinion. But this def not classic or 5 out of 5 and that’s not an opinion that’s a fact lol crazy.

    6. All the broke Nas stans will be very angry at this. This getting a 5 and Nasir’s getting a 3.8, even though it should be a big fat 0. Stay mad, the King and the Queen made a classic album and Nas still couldn’t make a decent album, even when hooking up with Kanye. Nas needs to take notes from King HOV. Album of the year hands down.

    7. 5 of 5? G..T..F..O..H. super Hype Beast review. this is why you must SIT with music before reviewing it… smh kids

      1. No such thing as paid reviews at DX. Have you listened to the album thoroughly? Considering it came out last week and you’re not getting paid to do so, I doubt you have. Until you do so, you can’t say shit.

          1. FOH, I heard this a couple of hours ago twice, still can’t say it’s anything above average at best. All hype for the power couple bullshit. For the record I’m a Nas fan, but his album ain’t a classic either. Still much better than this.

        1. Clearly you’ve forgotten the Nicki/Remy beef. Hhdx was clearly paid to promote Nicki, and every time a comment says this it gets deleted (which no doubt this will) this is a great news site, but 0 integrity.

    8. I think a lot of ppl are skimming through this album. I admittingly pre-judged it myself. After really listening to it…this album is damn near classic. F it, I’ll say this also – it’s lyrically better than Nasir. Yup.

      1. Salute. It irks me when people say they aren’t talking about anything but money. I’m like no you’re not listening!!!

    9. You just can’t give this a 5 and say it’s up there with all time classics. It actually devalues any reviews you are doing. It’s certainly better than 4:44, but that’s because of queen b. Can’t wait til takashi drops so you can give him a 5 too.

      1. What’s wrong with it Fishstix? Please enlighten everyone with your incredible critiques.

    10. I may stop coming to this site due to reviews like this. I don’t know if they are paying journalists to write and interns to fake generate hype in the comments section to generate good publicity. But, this is a joke! I’m a big Jay-Z fan, bu to give this 5/5 is a complete joke. I may stop coming to this website because If the journalists actually believe and the people leaving comments actually believe this is 5/5 I’m genuinely disgusted. To put this album on the level of classics like 36 Chambers, The Chronic, Illmatic, Low End Theory, To Pimp A Butterfly, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, The Blueprint, etc… this is a joke. This bullshit album is noooooooo wayyy even near those albums. The Carters sound like they are trying to hard to be young and relevant. Half the beats on the album are generic cliche cookie-cutter trap beats that you would hear on any other dime a dozen rappers albums such as 2 Chainz, Future, etc… Jay’s raps sound very lazy and uninspired. He is not saying anything with a message or purpose. This isn’t Kanye West making a statement like ‘Jesus Walks’ or NWA making a statement with ‘Fuck The Police’ this is just generic I’m the man, I got $, I’m cooler than everybody ego bullshit. Beyonce sounds like a hoodrat thot. Do you people hear truly believe this is a classic 5/5. Like is everyone trolling or something. There’s no way this can be serious… lol.

          1. As long as I’ve been reading DX, they’ve covered R&B, rap, etc. Stop being so close minded and grow a little.

      1. If you don’t think jay was spitting message in this album like black wealth and black love then u have the wrong album

    11. Hahahahahhahahahahahahaha oh my god 5 out of 5? For this joke of an album??? Fuck rap fuck life and most importantly fuck hhdx

    12. 1 more thing… I read someone said this album is better than 4:44. I completely disagree. I wasn’t a big fan of 4:44, but it was better than this BS. This album to me is no better than the 2 albums Jay did with R. Kelly (Best of Both Worlds & Unfinished Business). On those 2 R. Kelly albums Jay wasn’t saying anything lyrically it was just his throwaway I’m the man, I got $, I’m living the life, lazy BS lyrics. The beats on those R. Kelly albums where all cliche & generic throwaway Trackmasters beats (which where the pop fad at that time). The beats on this new The Carters albums are just fad trap beats for the most part. I don’t personally hear how this new album is any better than the forgettable albums Jay did with R. Kelly that most of you hear probably have never even heard lol.

      1. Agree with u on the beat thing but jay is spitting on some playa shit and lyrically killing which he always does if you actually listen to him

      1. You named all rap albums though. Of course it’s not like illmatic because it’s not a full rap album but yes. Every song is good

        1. You stupid af if you don’t think jay-z and beyonce are hip hop, and to compare them to katy perry wtf what an idiot

      2. What would possess you to compare this 30 year old gangsta rap albums .. who listened to this and immediately thought of nuthin but a g thang? The game changes with time and this is the now

    13. This is sad. Music is supposed to be uplifting and universal, and the negativity in these comments is disgusting. People are allowed to have opinions you don’t agree with. It doesn’t mean you attack them just because you think your opinion is superior. Music is also purely subjective, so what you may like, another person doesn’t. So what. We have bigger issues in the world plaguing our society. If you don’t like, whatever, move on. No need to let your negative energy linger here.

    14. Woah I can’t even bring myself to sit through this entire album in a single listen. There isn’t a bar here that impresses me, which is sad for a Jay album. 5 is way too high imo

    15. This album will come and go quick. Of course they will call shots and the media will answer but it was good nothing special. I listened once and don’t have intentions on listening again. I like what they stand for but that’s about it

      1. Your comment makes no sense. It’s good but you will not listen to it again? If you had said “I didn’t like it” then ok, but to say something is good and say “i like what they stand for but that’s about it” is illogical. Today we see too many comments like this, they are incomplete, contradictory and borderline ridiculous. You can think whatever you want about the album, that’s your opinion, but just be clear about what you’re talking about. “it’s good” and “don;t have intentions on listening again” do not go together.

    16. Maybe relax with the 5 out of 5. I loved it, but it’s not a perfect album. I’m giving it a 5 because we can’t give half stars here. If you guys didn’t give such ridiculously high ratings to average albums in the past you wouldn’t have had to give this a perfect score. Very good album, not a classic.

      1. You are not a Jay Z fan if you rate this higher than a 3. Such disrespect to his own classics.

        1. You’re a clown for that comment. This is a joint album, not a Jay album. The sound is different and he still flows better than the young kids on young kid beats. To compare with his soli albums, this is better than mchg and volume 3 for sure. To compare with his collabs, definitely better than Unfinished Business. Jay Z is top 2 all time, and his worst albums are miles ahead of most of today’s rappers’ best ones.

    17. This or DAMN. This or GKMC. This or College Dropout – those weren’t 5’s for hhdx so how is this?

Yes we’re in a different age of hip-hop and we all have opinions, but 5 – the highest score, perfect? FOH

    18. Oh my god. 5/5 are you kidding me? It’s a 4 at best. Not saying it’s bad, but saying it’s a perfect album is saying it’s one of the best of all time. I genuinely feel you can give that acolade to TPAB (even though I didn’t love it) because it was a masterpiece with meaning. This is just two rich people saying ‘it’s all love’ yet throwing shade at everybody. It’s a good album, but impossible to be better? At 9 tracks long? Wow.

    19. Musical Matrimony? I see HHDX has also been duped by this BS. are you kidding me? This is the most transparent BS I’ve ever seen. First Beyonce makes an album like she pissed Jay cheated and then Jay makes a I’m sorry album now their together making a we love each other album fake drama starting bullshitters. Album is fine production is good but lyrically there is nothing special here.

      1. Too many Nas stans up in their feelings in these comments. Anyone who says Jay didn’t say anything concrete here obviously just skimmed thru the album…he has some lyrical points here…even more than 444

        1. There is nothing wrong with skimming through an album … If no song grabs you to keep listening or hitting rewind, the songs/album ain’t good

    20. Great album, 4/5. 5 is hella reaching tho. Some tracks are drawn out like Friends and Jay-Z is just boring on some tracks. Beyonce was amazing on this, her adlibs and layers on this album were incredible. Took me as a surprise. Another thing is that it Isn’t even mixed properly with vocals overlapping and lyrics not sounding like they were tracked right. At first listen I gave it a 9/10, a couple listens 6/10, it’s a good 8/10 in my opinion.

    21. Why is it that the whole media apparatus is super infatuated with this annoying ass pseudo ”power” couple? Like I get it blak xlns and all that but get their dick outta your mouth people. Jay and B are more of a ”how to build a brand 101” than a pure musically top notch couple.

And also filming at the Louvre is just next level pretentious bullshit. FOH

    22. It is truly a great piece of art. Love the dynamic of the album and the sounds. Truly a masterpiece

    23. It’s actually a pretty dope project.
Favorite tracks: APESHIT, BOSS, NICE, 713 and FRIENDS (one of my favorite Bey’s hook in years).

    24. I totally disagree. I’mma have to give this album a 1.5 simply because I just didnt like any song enough to listen to it more than once. There’s not 1 song worth rewinding or listening to entirely. Sorry but this is what expensive high class hot garbage sounds like.

    25. Boring album. Sounds like a Beyonce Album with repeated Jay Z features. That’s fine – but too poppy.

    26. Nope. Not something I’m gonna play more than once. Sorry not sorry ????

    27. Anyone who has self respect and love for this thing of ours will never log on to this site again after this review. Beyonce screeches and warbles through this and Jay hardly even tries. The whole point of this album is simp/cringeworthy. 5??? this is a 2.5 at best.

    28. This album is something I can see the ladies loving but as a man, I can’t really rock with this. You gotta have a vagina to give this a 5/5. And if you’re a man giving this a 5/5 then you better be marching in the pride parade. Overall this shit is weak as hell and the lyrics are over saturated with a bunch of rich bougie shit that only 1% of the world can actually relate to.

    29. Hahaha only in this day and age could anyone say this is a perfect, flawless album – it’s as good as Illmatic now? Well done HHDX you fucking clowns

    30. Again Kyle and his biased bullshit! This album is a weak 3. Get the carters nutts out your mouth. First off B’ didn’t write most of her raps, second Jesus they where trap hooks, adlibs and beats, the shire UN-originality drops it by a point. Second the album has no depth its a commercial filler. I see who’s on Jay’Once’s paylist ahaha

    31. Boy, I tell you, times have changed in the music industry in terms of how artista are releasing music. Think about it, 10 years ago, if Nas and Jay-Z had both released albums the same weekend, it would have been this huge event. In 2018 though, it aint no thing. Both of these guys just dropped albums with no promotion or singles almost out of nowhere. I’ve noticed that more and more with that most artists are following the trend of recording albums in secret and then just dropping it out of nowhere. Like, remember when Q Tip had announced that there was a new Tribe album a couple years ago? When he announced it. The album was already done and was set to be released the following week. Times have really changed.

      Just something ove noticed.

    32. Kyle Eustice. Did you just referenced Beyonce as the Queen of Rap with her out-of-date 1999 vocals!?!? So I guess that you believe that Future is the King of Rap! SMHD

      1. where did he say that at? My basic comprehension skills allowed me to see that he referenced other people calling Beyonce the queen of rap (which is totally horse shit imo) and even included a link to support that. What is the name of your elementary school? We need to have a talk with your principal.

    33. 5/5?!?!?!? Wow, that is just nuts. What is the last album you gave that rating to? Genuinely curious.

    34. Pure trash. Not an enjoyable second on this. Beyonce can’t rap, Jay Z’s shit doesn’t even rhyme anymore what the hell is this. PAID REVIEW.

    35. Stopped playing the album after the second track and switched to Life is Good for some real rap. Not trying to hear Beyonce spit bars. So this is what we’re going to get instead of WTT2 huh? smh…

    36. y’all some clowns, y’all gave this a 5/5 loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooool, your site really aint shit

    37. WTF HHDX?????????
This album is not good. Beyoncé not only rapping but using autotuned on tracks is stupid. Jay only had a verse on few of the tracks. He should not feel like a featured guest on his own project.
I will say I like the opening track.
Jay-Z has dropped some classics and Beyonce is one of the most talented singers in hip-hop today but this album is garbage, this is easily the worst album Jay-Z has put out and I’d say it’s one of the worst Beyonce projects

    38. Remember when Source Magazine gave Benzino a perfect 5. Then they lost all respect from most of their readers. This is almost like that but HHDX doesn’t have the Source Mag impact they use to have.

Y’all did two shitty reviews. Nasir and this. Nasir isn’t perfect but this shit definitely ain’t no 5 mics either. Somebody got paid under the table..

          1. NO. That never happened. They gave his Made Men group 4.5 mics but not a 5. And this Jaybey album is pretty damn good. Especially for a rap / r&b project.

            1. Look it up. Benzino 5 mic scandal. Comprehend fam no one compared talent just the perfect score situation

    39. This album is way better than it should be. Not Jays best, def not his worst (MCHG). So far no real complaints but i can’t rate it yet, still unpacking. More jigga would be nice. I’m pleasantly surprised and I think I’ll be bumping this for a while. Haters gonna hate. It may not be your taste but in no way is this a bad album.

    40. I have just listened to this Lp again, and it’s nothing close to be called a classic. Nope. 4:44 was much better. once again because my previous post has been deleted. It’s not HiphopDX no more but HipHopXD

    41. Damn I swear everyone from Charlamagne to HipHopDX to these radio DJ’s just think everything that Jay and Beyoncé do are “perfect.” I have never seen so much bias when it came to these two artists compared to anyone else. Did they pay you guys?? This album is not creative at all. It is their desperate attempt to steal the show when Kanye has been doing his projects, and desperate attempt to sound like “todays rap.” The trap beats, the Beyoncé “Migos sounding flow,” Jay with his tired flow nowadays over some trap beats. GTFOH! Im a Jay fan too but this is trash. His last 5 years have been trash. Beyoncé is literally a product of the machine, all the writers and beatmakers and choreographers coming together to create this album and they get the credit for sounding like everyone else. Someone had the nerve to call Beyoncé “The Queen of Rap” after this. Just disrespectful. Hiphopdx has a dickrider department for Jay-Z and Beyoncé. give an honest review! You waited 6 days to review Nas’ album which was cool but I agree, not close to a 5. But you review Jays albums a day later and give him a 5 with a gold ribbon. FOH. Shit is corny as fuck

    42. Kylie Eustice Should never get to do a review again 5 out of 5 ??!! Beyoncé the new queen of rap??!! OMG please STOP.. this album TRASH.. this site has NO CREDIBILITY WHATSOEVER

    43. This album should never have been attempted. Beyonce rapping? Very little Jay-Z? This could have been great if they stuck to what they do best.

    44. Here to influence the community rating coz it speaks the truth. F’ Kyle haha no hard feelings though.

    45. Hahahaha, well that puts an end to me clicking the review section ever again. Look, the album was a lot better than I thought it would be…but 5/5 is an insult to everybody’s intelligence. This clown’s review card should be revoked, first of all it’s 9 songs and the single is trash bags so that leaves at best 8 out of 9 have to be absolutely perfect and that’s just not the case. The album got a good vibe to it, I’ve bumped it twice and actually forgot about it til I saw this fuckery. Bey is very talented but easily the most overrated artist in pop history, and Jay hasn’t been dope since American Gangster. With all the fake news, the fakest news ever is that this shit is a classic…come the fuck on

      1. “first of all it’s 9 songs and the single is trash bags ” I kinda stoped reading here. How can someone be so wrong right out the gate. Block this troll’s IP!

    46. Just listened to the album for the second time and I must say that this score and review are preposterous.

    47. Did hhdx as a whole agree to rate this a perfect album? I mean I dont remember GKMC, GRODT, MMLP- hell even some of Jay Z’s best work didnt get a fucking 5.0 rating, have you lost it? This album is def worth its price and I was very pleasently surprised.. but my goodness- you called it perfect? Quit bs’ing- Kanye West wrote this review in an attempt to get in Hov’s good graces: we see you Ye lmao

      1. was DX even around to in the early 2000s? Don’t think they have a review of MMLP or GRODT. Maybe like a review on the 10 year anniversary but not one when it came out

    48. You will either like this album a lot or not much at all.

      SUMMER 4.5/5
      APESHIT 4/5
      BOSS 3.5/5
      NICE 3/5
      713 4/5
      FRIENDS 3/5
      HEARD ABOUT US 4/5
      BLACK EFFECT 5/5
      LOVEHAPPY 5/5

      Overall: 4/5 = 80%

Tho no 4:44… This is the best album of the year so far for me

      1. I would agree with you but respect the Queen and her husband …HOva baby! lol Been a fan of them since 2001-2003 (Jay -Bey) LOL

        1. Yes, I will respect the Queen and King with their bitten lyrics, stolen flows, stolen sounds and 100 paid writers.

    49. Really this album AT BEST is a 3/5 but since you guy’s at HHDX are trolling us here is big 1/5.

    50. Gave it as many spins as I could take before placing in the trash. Idk how HHDX giving them 5 stars. That’s some bullshit.

    51. Do you people get paid to hate this much? Do you have a hard time opening your mind to music or do you already hate an album before you listen to it? This was a good album, maybe not 5/5 album but definitely not a 1/5 album.

    52. Was not expecting this much hate… To me it’s an amazing fusion of both artists strengths with the hot new wave sound. Loved it cover to cover, my AOTY

      1. Nas is a better artist than Jay and Bey, but they had the better project this year–WAY better. I think the review is fair. This is one of the best hip hop / RnB records to come out in years. Same echelon as Malibu.

      1. I agree the people that are trolling us by giving this album 5/5 should go back to listening to Taylor Swift.

    53. This album is atrocious. Complete trash. Beyonce(‘s team) and Jay Z are merely businesspeople manipulating the public with their manufactured, carefully-curated image and building on their vacuous, ego-driven dynasty. Beyonce(‘s team) is to art and good music what McDonalds is to healthy eating. But damn sure their massive PR-media machine remains a successful juggernaut.

    54. You guys missed the mark on this review. Music is clearly subjective, but generally if an album is a classic that feeling is shared by the masses. This album is ok. It’s a 3.8 to 4.0 at the most.

    55. This Album is average best to non listenable at the worst of times. It’s a mediocre project for both the main featured artists and the laundry list of lyric and beat writers. I haven’t seen anyone except HHDX give this a perfect score.

    56. This review lost me when they mentioned that Jay Z and Beyonce took a “fresh approach” to trap infused beats. Nope. Beyonce sounds stressed and unnatural rapping on APESHIT and Jay Z doing his normal flow thing but he stays in the trap of name dropping rich man stuff and throwing in the fact, he used to be involved with dealing cocaine! SUPRISE! That will never get old! What “fresh” material there Jay Z.

    57. This album is weak, expect much better from these two. Beyonce shouldn’t rap and feels like Jay Z phoned his performance in.

    58. Wow this album is annoying as fuck. Beyoncé can’t rap so stop that shit, no one wants to hear Jay Z say the same dumb shit he been saying for the last twenty years(yes Mr. Carter you used to sell drugs, you know really popular art and rich people brands!). Also, this couple BS needs to stop no one is believing it. The beats in this album are actually decent but don’t fit either artist, the lyrics sound like someone listened to a bunch of Jay Z and Beyoncé classic hit albums and did an impersonation or worst both these two phoned it the fuck in.

    59. There is literally no seamless integration of anything on this album. Too be coming off Lemonade and 4:44, which were both above average albums, have two of the biggest stars in pop music on one album and have a laundry list of writers and beat makers and the still couldn’t even make an average album. Now after the hype of a new Beyonce album is dead, no one is pumping the singles off this album. This might be the weakest project that any of these artists have been involved in.

    60. I gave this album another whirl and I am just not into it. Beyonce’s rapping is okay but she’s far from the queen of rap. Also, we’ve heard better Jay Z, and after 4:44 I was hoping he would mature but he’s back to talking about slinging drugs and name dropping shit hypebeast kids get erections over. The young bucks have nothing to worry about if this is how Jay Z chooses to rap the rest of his recording career. I actually like the beats but there not for either of these two. Also, I really don’t get the feeling that they emerged as a stronger couple, it’s basically Beyonce telling Jay Z he fucked up and Jay Z agreeing that he fucked up but no where do they actually say what the solution to keeping their relationship together is.

    61. Wow this review, I think any sane person with ears and a brain would come to the opposite conclusion of this review here

    62. 5.0? Really? More like an 0.5. This is a weak attempt to cash in on family drama. What a disappointment in light of 4:44 and Lemonade. Does this couple really think their family drama is really this interesting? Musically, it’s just a mess. Beyonce can’t rap worth a damn, and Jay is talking about the same ole-same ole. There is not an ounce of creativity on this project. I’m sure they will both bounce back, but this album is really weak and how it was rated so high is exceptionally questionable.

    63. I just listened to this album and I am happy, I didn’t get caught up in the initial hype. I barely got through this thing.

    64. Not great, not horrible…middle of the road album…wasn’t really feeling it…and I tried to but I don’t know how this got a 5/5…that’s ridiculous unless you just love everything Jay & Bey do…I can’t see objectively giving this a 5/5…not for this album…not when stuff like KOD and Book of Ryan didn’t even get 5/5 and those were WAY better albums.

    65. Looking back at this album how did you guys give this 5/5? Even on the initial surprise drop, after one listen, only the most hardcore Jay-Z & Beyonce fan would give this album a 5/5

    66. This was a disgusting and unprofessional review, I can’t believe the editors on this site rubber stamped this nonsense

    67. This album CLEARLY went over everybody’s head who saying it’s 1/5. This album gave the music game EXACTLY what’s it’s been missing. The intelligent flows from Jigga and the soulful rift’s from Queen B. The lyrical content is too grown and mature for you mumble rap/mediocre R&B vocal lovers. Combined they put together a MASTERPIECE. It’s them against the world FAMILY OVER EVERYTHING and they put it all on wax. But some of y’all don’t know NOTHING about that.
