Chris Lighty Found Dead At 44 Years Old
This week, veteran manager Chris Lighty was found dead at 44 years old. According to sources, the Hip Hop executive, who has overseen the careers of Busta Rhymes, Mariah Carey, Diddy and 50 Cent, committed suicide by shooting himself in the head in his Bronx, New York home. After news broke on Thursday afternoon, several of his associates spoke out on his life, stating that he was under severe stress from work and a divorce, as well as facing debt to the IRS. During his life, Lighty helped usher Hip Hop into the mainstream, sealing deals for LL Cool J and A Tribe Called Quest with international brands. His contribution to the culture will never be forgotten.
Slaughterhouse Releases welcome to: OUR HOUSE, Speaks On Eminem’s Influence
A few members of Slaughterhouse, consisting of Crooked I, Royce Da 5’9, Joe Budden and Joell Ortiz, spoke exclusively with HipHopDX this week, addressing the release of their Shady Records debut welcome to: OUR HOUSE, which dropped on Tuesday. During our interview, we spoke with Crooked I and Joey about what it was like to work with Eminem on the project and how he played a big part in shaping the album. “Well, I can think of one element that’s different: Eminem,” laughed Crooked I. “Yeah, that’s a very different element on this album. He had some influence on certain material. He arranged, he mixed and he was featured. That was a big difference between the first and the last album. Madchild Admits To Wasting $3 Million On Drugs
Madchild opened up to HipHopDX this week, explaining his battle against substance abuse and discussing his new album Dope Child. He elaborated on his statement that “I should be dead” on the album, recalling that he spent three million dollars on his drug addiction and ending up overweight. Madchild said that his family helped him through this difficult time and that his Swollen Members brethren are “my brothers” and how he’s gotten over this trying period in his life.
