Raekwon & Ghostface Killah Reunite For New Song Following Funk Flex Challenge

Raekwon and Ghostface Killah have successfully completed the Funk Flex challenge after reuniting for a new song.

The long-serving Hot 97 DJ premiered the untitled track from the Wu Gambinos during his radio show on Thursday (September 1). It finds the veteran rappers trading bars over slick, early ’90s-inspired production from Scram Jones.

Unfortunately, the song is “never going to be on Apple [Music] or Spotify,” according to Flex, but a version can be heard below.

Flex called upon the Wu-Tang Clan rhymers to drop new material last week and even requested that they record the song in their hometown of Staten Island.

“I challenge Raekwon and Ghostface to get me a joint,” Flex said on his radio show. “They gotta be on the same song, no features.

“I know you guys are rich, you’re doing a lot of shows. I look at your jewelery game, and car game and I understand; the Wu-Tang Tour is going on. I think you should record it in Staten Island — just a request.”

Raekwon swiftly accepted Flex’s challenge, sharing a photograph of himself in a Rolls Royce on Instagram. The Chef captioned the pic: “@funkflex WE ACCEPT ALL APPLICATIONS!!!!” He also shared a throwback pic of him and Ghost.

Raekwon and Ghostface Killah have been tearing up mics as a Hip Hop duo for almost three decades, kicking off their partnership on Rae’s classic 1995 album Only Built 4 Cuban Linx… and continuing it on Ghost’s Ironman LP in 1996.

The pair’s last collaboration arrived last November with “Bob James Freestyle,” a freestyle over the musician’s widely-sampled 1974 song “Nautilus,” which was also flipped on Ghostface’s “Daytona 500.”

Raekwon and Ghostface are both currently working on sequels to one of their most beloved albums. Rae told HipHopDX last year that Only Built 4 Cuban Linx… 3 is still being “curated to make it strong,” while Tony Starks is prepping Supreme Clientele 2 with help from Kanye West and Mike Dean.

Raekwon and Ghostface Killah are just the latest rappers to answer Funk Flex’s challenge following fellow New Yorkers Busta Rhymes, Jadakiss, Conway The Machine, Juelz Santana and Fabolous, who have all delivered new music in recent weeks.
