Westside Gunn Hints At Jay Electronica Joining Griselda

Jay Electronica may soon be joining Griselda Records. In an Instagram video posted on Monday (July 18), label founder Westside Gunn hinted at the “Exhibit C” lyricist becoming the latest addition to his crew.

“Shout out to Jay Electronica. Jay Electronica might be Griselda!” he said while hanging with fellow Griselda representative Rome Streetz in New York City. “Y’all might not know what the fuck we doing behind the scenes, man. Jay Electronica might be Griselda. Yeah, for real. Ask him, see what he tells you. You heard it first.”

Jay Electronica potentially joining Griselda doesn’t come as too much of a surprise considering he worked with Westside Gunn on “Free Kutter,” from last year’s Hitler Wears Hermes 8: Side B, as well as IDK’s “Red,” which also featured the late MF DOOM.

The pair also share a mutual connection in JAY-Z, whose Roc Nation label Jay Electronica has been signed to for over a decade and who Westside Gunn is currently managed by.

Should the deal happen, the New Orleans MC will join a growing Griselda roster that includes Benny The Butcher, Mach-Hommy, Boldy James, Stove God Cook$, Jay Worthy, Armani Caesar and more.

One long-serving member who is technically no longer on the Buffalo-based label is Conway The Machine, who announced in February he’s “contractually done” with Griselda and Eminem’s Shady Records.

The God Don’t Make Mistakes MC later revealed he made “no money” from his Griselda deal having failed to read the contract, but didn’t rule out resigning with the label.

Elsewhere in his Instagram video, Westside Gunn spoke about linking with Lloyd Banks and Busta Rhymes in the studio earlier that day.

“We just had a fucking beautiful day, working,” he said. “Shout out to Lloyd Banks, we went to his album release. Shout out to Busta Rhymes, he played me some amazing shit. I played him some Michelle Records and man, you already know, we inspired each other.”

The Buffalo, New York native released his first project of 2022, Peace “Fly” God, earlier in July, featuring collaborations with Madlib and Stove God Cook$. The mixtape serves as a precursor to his upcoming fifth studio album Michelle Records.

    1. I like Griselda n all but I think they peaked a few years ago. Time for solo projects with underground producers with grimey 90s beats. Flex was right. They didn’t take full advantage of their resources.

    2. Well Jay Electronica have always been known for making bad business moves, can you blame him? He had a buzz 10 years ago but never really took advantage of the timing. Time for more AYO. AYO. AYO. BOOOBOOOBOOO. DOOOTDOOOTDOOOT. BRRRRRRRRR. SKRRRRTTT that no one asked for!!!!

    3. Rome Streetz is dangerous in the mic. Benny, Jay, conway, west, stove God, and rome streetz, with Daringer and Alch on the boards, that can be a beautiful thing for NY and hip hop. Include now RJ, SPesh 38, Planit Asia, and you got even more hip hop goodness.

    4. I literally cant think of an MC less suited to Griselda’s ad-lib heavy gun-talk…
Jay Elec is on that Backpack tip like Lupe, Mos, Talib, even Kendrick to an extent, i actually fux with Jay Elec hard since Act.1 and i thought the long awaited debut was one of the better albums that year but idk bout this…

    5. My main issue with Griselda is the boring production…boring as in 90% of the beats on any given project sound like the couldve been on literally ANY other one of ANY of their MANY projects…also boring as in, not just ‘artsy/no drums’ (like the dope Royce/WSG track ‘overcomer’) but boring in a, ‘i jus tlearned how to use garageband and came up with one good 8 bar loop but cant figure out how to switch it up at all during the verse/chorus etc’

      1. You don’t really listen to Griselda. Con and Benny projects have stellar diverse production from Hit Boy, Daringer, Beat Butcha, Don Cannon, Havoc Harry Fraud, Alchemist, Justice League, Premo, etc. plus, Boldyhas some of the best production from Alchemist and Jay Versace. Just create a new loop and paste it.
