After causing pandemonium in the streets of London earlier this week, Nicki Minaj set social media alight on Tuesday (July 12) by previewing her raunchy new single. The Young Money superstar posted a video on Instagram containing a snippet of an unreleased song called “Freaky Girl,” which samples Rick James’ 1981 hit “Super Freak.”

“I can lick it, I can ride it while you slippin’ and slidin’/I can do all them little tricks and keep the dick up inside it/You can smack it, you can grip it, you can go down and kiss it/And every time he leave me alone he always tell me he miss it,” she raps over a bouncy, bass-heavy remake of the original beat.

“He want a F R EEEEEE A K #FreakyGirl [tongue emoji,” Nicki captioned the clip, which finds her striking seductive poses for the camera while wearing a Burberry swimsuit and iced-out chain.

Taken from Rick James’ 1981 album Street Songs, “Super Freak” topped Billboard’s U.S. Hot Dance Club Play chart while peaking at No. 16 on the Hot 100. The track enjoyed a new lease on life less than a decade later when MC Hammer sampled it for his 1990 smash “U Can’t Touch This,” which became the first rap song to be nominated for Record of the Year at the Grammys the following year.

While “Freaky Girl” channels the raunchy spirit of Rick James’ original, Nicki Minaj hinted at moving away from sexually-charged content earlier this year. Speaking with The Dana Cortez Show, she revealed she declined a verse on Gunna’s “Pushin P” due to its explicit nature.

“It was, like, the moaning and the groaning on the track,” she explained. “I knew in order to get on a track like that I would have to be explicit and, in my opinion, I would have to really kill it and talk that real talk. And I wasn’t ready, I just wasn’t there… That’s just to tell you how being a mom has changed me.”

In the same interview, she recalled resisting pressure from her label to release an X-rated single while pregnant with her one-year-old son, Papa Bear.

“My label wanted me to go full out with a single and everything when I was pregnant, and I couldn’t bring myself to put out a song about pussy and dicks and sucking and eating,” she said. “I couldn’t bring myself to put a record out like that while my son was growing in my body!”

“Freaky Girl” will serve as Nicki Minaj’s fifth single this year following her “Do We Have a Problem?” and “Bussin” collaborations with Lil Baby, as well as “Blick Blick” with Coi Leray and the Fivio Foreign-assisted “We Go Up.” A release date for the song has yet to be announced.

All signs point to Nicki releasing a new album in 2022, ending the four-year wait since 2018’s Queen. During her aforementioned interview with The Dana Cortez Show, she promised the return of “mixtape Nicki” on the upcoming project.

“There’s a little bit of full-circledness happening, because I’m creating music kinda like how I used to create music when I first started rapping on mixtapes,” she said. “I just feel like that’s what’s needed right now… [writing] raps that connect with people, that make people want to sign a long and channel their inner bad bitch.”

She also hinted at her longtime collaborator Drakeoverseeing the album during a recent Q&A with fans on Twitter. “We actually discussed him EP’ing this new album,” she wrote. “That was b4 Seeing Green even came out.”
