Bon Iver frontman Justin Vernon and Kanye West have great chemistry as collaborators, but it appears their political differences have affected their relationship. In an interview with Pitchfork, Vernon revealed Yeezy’s affinity for Donald Trump has changed their dynamic.

“I can’t really kick it with him anymore on a personal level, just the energy,” the Grammy-winning artist said. “But I’ve got mad love for him, and we’re still friends.”

According to Vernon, he’s more politically aligned with progressive presidential candidates such as Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders. He’s even planning ahead for October 2020, aiming to schedule a Bon Iver tour in the battle state of Wisconsin in an effort to support whoever secures the Democratic nomination.

Vernon began collaborating with Kanye on 2010’s My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. The two continued working together over the years, including Vernon contributing vocals to multiple tracks on 2013’s Yeezus.
