A reliable source with knowledge of the situation reached out to tell DX, “Roc Nation doesn’t give advances for tours as part of the business model.”
(The original article was published earlier on July 4, 2017 and can be found below.)
There has been no shortage of talking points to arise from JAY-Z’s 4:44 release last week, but at this point it’s safe to say that the most-discussed lyrics have been the ones about JAY’s former friend and collaborator Kanye West.
A new TMZ report suggests that some of the lyrics from album opener “Kill Jay Z” that describe how things went down between Yeezy and his old mentor have been misinterpreted — particularly with respect to the “$20 million without blinkin’.”
According to TMZ, “sources with direct knowledge of Jay and Kanye’s business relationship” claim that rather than this money being a handout, it was a Roc Nation advance for the costs of Ye’s extravagant Saint Pablo Tour, including the floating stage. Of course, the tour came to a close ahead of schedule as Kanye West was hospitalized for exhaustion and an apparent mental breakdown.
JAY makes no bones about coming after Kanye on his new album, rapping: “But you got hurt because you did cool by ‘Ye/ You gave him $20 million without blinkin’/ He gave you 20 minutes on stage, fuck was he thinkin’?/ ‘Fuck wrong with everybody?’ is what you sayin’/ But if everybody’s crazy, you’re the one that’s insane.”
The lyrics have been the cause of much speculation as to where it all went wrong between the two men. A second report from TMZ says that the feud really took off when Kanye called Jay out during an onstage rant toward the premature end of his Saint Pablo Tour, just days before he went into hospital.
There have also been reports that Kanye is splitting from TIDAL, and that JAY’s streaming service owes him money, although these issues have apparently been in the works since before the release of 4:44.
WHO THE FUCK thought it was a HANDOUT?! Anybody with a logical cerebrum would figure Jay gave him the money on a business related venture. Whether it be music or whatever else…you fuckers are stupid and this shit aint NEWS
I respect Jay z’s hustle, but not this part. That wasn’t his money he gave, it’s Live Nation’s. Live Nation owns Roc Nation, Jay z does not. He likes to talk that fly Black ownership stuff, but he doesn’t actually own anything. All of his businesses are owned by white people who let him pose as if he owns them and project that image to the public. He’s a manager, not the owner. Ditto for Puffy, and Oprah. Master P showed us real Black ownership. Tyler Perry is the example now. If you don’t put your own money up, you don’t own it.
If you look that is a hand out dummy. Kanye is not on roc nation he is on def jam and def jam didn’t give him the money. Roc nation didn’t have to give him the money and guess what jay OK’d that loan. And putting up your own money 100% is the worse business strategy, for example sports teams usually have one owner but he got money from other people as well its called investing. They have majority owners who has final say on the business. You think bill gates own 100% of windows ? Live nation doesn’t own roc nation they have a partnership, like I said earlier never put up 100 % of your own money if you don’t have to. If live nation owned roc nation then jay z would have to have a record deal which he doesn’t. So stop with the Master p talk did know no limit had a parent company and still has one to this day which means no limit is a subsidiary.
Fuck all yall bitches.
Funny when people call other people dummies in the middle of saying some completely erroneous shit. No Limit didn’t have a parent company. Master P put all the money up front and Priority distributed the label for a percentage. That’s first. Second, idiot, nobody said you put up 100% of the money. The team owner that you mentioned in your sports analogy? They put up the MAJORITY of the money. That’s why their called the majority owner slow ass dude. Even if it’s 51%. Jay Z didn’t fund Roc Nation at all. It was given to him to run which means he doesn’t own it at all. That’s different than a sports owner putting up the majority of the money and letting other people buy minority shares. Live Nation and Roc Nation do not have a partnership. Live Nation pays all of the overhead, so they own it. It’s as simple as that.
Lmao “You think bill gates own 100% of windows ?” that was Classic
Jay owns Roc Nation/Sports/Managment. Live Nation gave him 100 mill over 10 yrs for promotion. But Jay own it, along with that champagne company, d’usse, he still owns the majority share of Tidal. Even after selling 33%. And I’m sure he owns more business’s than that. But even if he owned nothing. He still went from a black man straight from to hood to being worth over 800 million. I salute that dude and get back to worrying about my money…
Actually, Jay Z doesn’t own Roc Nation. Live Nation gave Jay Z that money as part of a 360 deal. Roc Nation is a subsidiary of Live Nation, meaning that Live Nation owns and has voting majority control of Live Nation. Jay Z owning Live Nation is a myth that Jay Z will not correct, just like how Jay Z never corrected anyone to the fact that he really didn’t own the Brooklyn Nets. He does own Armand de Brignac but has investing partners. He does not own Tidal, in fact Tidal ownership is really weird since all the artists on Tidal technically own a piece of it but no one has ever broken down what the percentage, it still look like Live Nation own Tidal as well.
I guess you know more about jay z business than he do lol. He never said he owns live nation . How are you going to say you don’t know the ownership of tidal then say it looks like live nation owns it ? Live nation has nothing to do with tidal. jay z has a joint venture and are equity partners with live nation meaning live nation don’t call the shots without being ok’d by jay.
I never said he owns Live Nation, I said Live Nation own ROC Nation that is an undisputable fact. I don’t know the ownership of Tidal, I am just guessing because that information isn’t public. Maybe Sprint, a publically traded company, owning a 1/3 will give us more clarity on Tidal ownership. Unlike Live Nation, where we know that it owns and has controlling interests in ROC Nation and not Jay Z, that information is quite public.
It is disputable because its not true they own a piece of it not all. When live nation and jay reup’ed this year even live nation said they are equity partners. Live nation can’t tell jay what to do, if they owned it they could. It is a partnership between live nation and jay z.
You know that Live Nation is a publicly traded company? This means they have to disclose their financials and what they own and position in other companies. SEC filings(sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/1335258/000119312512075895/d277780dex211.htm) say that ROC Nation is a SUBSIDIARY(investopedia.com/terms/s/subsidiary.asp) of Live Nation. NOT disputable, Live Nations OWNS and has CONTROLLING interest in ROC Nation.
live nation does not own roc nation at all. they are two different entities, live nation has a deal with Jay’z and roc nation to promote their concerts and other events as boxing etc, roc nation is own by jayz under S.C holdings, the same holding that has shares in Tidal, jay’z owns armand de brignac it was said on the New york times by the former owner that is Sovereign Brands Jay’z still has shares at the Barclays centers

He don’t own that shit. Roc Nation is owned by Sony. Respect his hustle, but Jay is a worker like everybody else in a lot of this shit. He just hooked up with Lyor Cohen who opened a lot of doors for him business wise.
Money and B!tches can Fuck up a friendship. Guess that’s why Ye was playing crazy. He wanted his money. I thought he never completed his contract. That’s why he ain’t get his money from Tidal. Oh well rich ppl problems.
Hhdx gotta do a what does Jay-Z really own article. So we can all stop wondering
Kanye dont need jayZ.
And vice versa
Jay-Z kayne is still friend
Are ppl really arguing about what Jay-Z owns and doesn’t own….smh
it dont matter if its his money..live nation/roc nation money JIGGA still managed to put 20M in another mans pocket…smh got damn be grateful…
Look below for the Live Nation/Roc Nation debate lol
Who the fuck cares about a $20M loan when Jiggles is gna get that 10 fold in the back end? Kangay hungry for cheese with many strings attached.
