Billboard recently examined the success of rising New Jersey rapper Fetty Wap and his hit single “Trap Queen.”

The auto-tune-enhanced ballad has ascended up Billboard charts in recent weeks and is currently at #6 on Billboard Hot 100 and #2 on the Hot R&B/Hip Hop Songs chart.

Fetty Wap’s popular single is also being deemed the first hit for his record label, 300 Entertainment.

Although 300 is home to “New Atlanta” acts Migos and Young Thug, 300 co-founder Todd Moscowitz told Billboard “Trap Queen” track is “the fastest-growing single we’ve had in terms of sales.”

According to Nielsen Music, the single has sold more than 502,000 units and has been viewed more than 34 million times on YouTube.

Moscowitz believes there are a variety of factors that have contributed to the song’s success.

Hot 97’s mainstay DJ Funkmaster Flex began pushing the single in December. Shortly after, the music video was available on YouTube’s IND-Music. Both platforms helped considerably, according to the label executive.

“The minute we got it on radio, TV and blogs, the record did the rest of the work,” Moscowitz says.

“’Trap Queen’ must run its course,” says Lyor Cohen, 300 co-founder. “300 was started just over a year ago and to have an artist like Fetty make the impact he’s making is a testament that if we find the right artists, great things will happen to our label.”

300 is slated to release Fetty Wap’s follow-up single in the spring and his debut album in the fall.
