With the 2014 installment of the SXSW festival well underway, HipHopDX’s Top 10 this week features highlights of Lil Boosie’s recent release from prison, the anniversary of The Notorious B.I.G.’s death on Sunday, and plenty more. With YG’s Kendrick Lamar feature on a cut culled from the Compton rapper’s upcoming My Krazy Life debut, “Really Be (Smokin N Drinkin)” climbed to the top of the list after its release on Thursday (March 13). Lil Wayne’s solo offering from the recently released Young Money compilation rises into the Top 3 after last week’s spot at #4. An unreleased and still mysterious Jay Z and Daft Punk track rounds at the Top 3 after its early-week release.

The rest of the Top 10 includes appearances from Freddie Gibbs, whose Madlib produced full-length is out next week, Lil Boosie’s post-prison press and recording run, and a The Notorious B.I.G. remix in honor of the anniversary of his death.

YG & Kendrick Lamar “Really Be (Smokin N Drinkin)”

With YG’s My Krazy Life due out on Tuesday of next week (March 18), the rapper let off one last single leading up to his debut release. Produced by Ty Dolla $ign, who recently stopped by DX headquarters for a short interview, “Really Be (Smokin N Drinkin)” will serve as the album’s eleventh track, following Drake’s appearance on the rapper hit “Who Do You Love.” With Kendrick’s third verse closing out the track, the duo touch on some of the things that drive them to smoke and drink. “I swear this industry shit / To me is one big ass lick / I walk inside of a buildin’, tell the A&R nigga strip,” Lamar raps.

In a recently released interview on Snoop Dogg’s GGN internet series, YG explained treating My Krazy Life as a “day-in-the-life piece.” “I’m giving you part of my story,” he said. “I’m giving you situations I been through, I went through, show you how I deal with situations, you feel me. I’m giving you the culture of the Westcoast how we living, Los Angeles Country, Compton California, South motherfucking Central, all that shit. I’m giving you that. On top of that, DJ Mustard production. It’s hard. though. It’s a lot of music right now that’s like soft to me, and it’s soft to a lot of people. I feel like motherfuckers want [this] shit.”

Lil Wayne Features On Rise Of An Empire

With the third compilation album from the Young Money label out this week, the crew’s founder offered up “Moment” as his solo contribution to the effort. Waxing on his celebratory lifestyle throughout the song’s hook, Wayne touches on everything from his Rolls Royce, Persian rugs, and choppers on the Lee On The Beats production. “Look, we treat them triggers like repeat buttons / Leave it all out there or leave nothin’ / Like the world a crystal ball, I keep rubbin’ it,” Wayne raps.

Lil Wayne and the rest of the Young Money camp released Rise Of An Empire Tuesday (March 11). The album earned a 2.5 out of 5 in its HipHopDX review. “Where We Are Young Money portrayed the label as one big Playboy-Mansion-style party, Empire offers a gloomy portrait of a house divided,” HipHopDX said in its review.

Earlier this week, the rapper explained plans to retire following his upcoming The Carter V release. “I personally plan on this being my final solo album, yes, and it’s definitely the final Carter album,” Lil Waynesaid in an interview with MTV. “It’s the final Carter album. It’s stopping at five. I didn’t smile when I said it.”

Daft Punk & Jay Z’s Unreleased “Computerized”

With information on the song still up in the air, an unreleased Daft Punk and Jay Z track surfaced this week. Apparently recorded during the making of the Tron soundtrack—Jay Z’s Blackberry references and the robots’ then-current signature alongside the recognizable “The Son Of Flynn” number helps bear that out—it’s unclear if “Computerized” will ever see official release (or if it’s legitimate in the first place). While rumors swirled that Kanye West may have had his hand in the making of the song, Pitchfork claims to confirm that “Computerized” is free of the Chicago producer’s fingerprints.
