KRS-1 has recently landed in the hot seat with the New York Daily News when his statements at a conference may have rubbed people the wrong way. The NYDN began their topic with these words…
“The hip-hop anarchist has declared his solidarity with Al Qaeda by asserting that he and other African-Americans ‘cheered when 9/11 happened.’”

While these words may seem a bit harsh the article goes on saying that when the planes hit the Twin Towers KRS-1 said “Mmmm – Justice.” The article goes on quoting the emcee saying that the atrocity of 9/11 “doesn’t affect us [the hip-hop community],” he said. “9/11 happened to them, not us,” he added, explaining that by “them” he meant “the rich … those who are oppressing us. RCA or BMG, Universal, the radio stations.”

They even quote KRS-1 commenting on the voter registration campaigns by his fellow rappers by saying “Voting in a corrupt society adds more corruption, America has to commit suicide if the world is to be a better place.”
While the rapper has yet to be interviewed by the New York Daily News for his comments it must be noted that the comments were on the New York Daily News’ gossip column and we don’t know how much of this was taken out of context.
