Dr. Dre sent shockwaves through the Hip Hop community earlier this week, revealing that he wants to take a break from music after decades on the grind. Speaking with MTV’s RapFix Live, his protégé Slim the Mobster said that he deserves a break from making music after everything he’s contributed to the culture.

“After 27 years and for the past time that I’ve been around, I know for a fact that he hasn’t been out the studio long,” he said. “So let him have a break. He gave us Eminem and 50 Cent and Snoop Dogg, The Game – he gave us a lot of things in his time. There are some rappers who ain’t give us nothing. So let the man have fun now.”

He also spoke on hearing songs intended for Detox. Slim said that while he didn’t hear a Lil Wayne cut for the elusive album, he listened to one track featuring Drake and another featuring Jay-Z. He wasn’t confirming the features, only because Dre tends to be picky when it comes to settling on a final tracklist.

“I don’t know, he picky. He doesn’t care about that name stuff. It’s got to be appeasing to him and what he likes,” he said. “And the thing too is people tend to forget that he is not a rapper. A lot of people forget that. He is a producer. That is where his craft is – he’s a producer, he makes the music. That’s why Eminem albums sound the way they do. People tend to forget that.”
