Big Sean, Chief Keef, A-Trak and IamSu! have been added to the Rock The Bells 2013 lineup. They will join Black Hippy, Wu-Tang Clan and Tech N9ne, among others, at the concert series, which is celebrating its 10-year anniversary and is scheduled to kick off September 7 and 8 at the San Manuel Amphitheater in San Bernardino, California.
The announcement of additional talent to the Rock The Bells line-up is the first part of the festival’s summer roll-out. “We wanted to kick off our 10-year anniversary campaign this summer with yet another talent announcement,” says Chang Weisberg, Guerilla Union President and Rock the Bells founder. “Our fans are expecting an epic experience and we want to make sure to deliver more new music and more classic performances. Plus, this will give everyone something to look forward to until our final announcement next month. We’ll be revealing yet another handful of artists, including an additional headliner in all four cities.”
Rock The Bells is slated to be at be the Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, California September 14 and 15. The event will make its first stops at the RFK Festival Grounds in Washington, D.C., September 28 and 29 and at the Meadowlands Racetrack in East Rutherford, New Jersey October 4 and 5.
Last month, Doug E. Fresh & Slick Rick, KRS-One, RiFF RaFF, and Girltalk and Freeway were added to all Rock The Bells dates. J. Cole was also added to the Los Angeles, Washington D.C., and New York City dates. Action Bronson has been added to the Los Angeles and San Francisco dates. Pretty Lights will be at the New York stop.
In May, Rock The Bells held its press conference and launch party for its 2013 line-up.
At the event, Rock The Bells also announced that it will include “original digital performances” by Ol’ Dirty Bastard with Wu-Tang Clan and Eazy-E with Bone thugs-n-harmony. Weisberg said that he understands if fans want to “downplay things” about the performances, but added that he feels this will help the legacies of both ODB and Eazy-E.
“A lot of fans want to immediately downplay things or say, ‘That’s wack.’,” Weisberg said during an exclusive interview with HipHopDX in May. “Really? Is it that wack for ODB’s catalog to have an increase in sales and to take care of his family? Is it wack that Eazy-E can inspire generations of fans who will never get a chance to see him? You listen to music. You’re, to me, analog because listening to music is only one way of experiencing it. For me, it’s always been about live. I’ll say this: nothing is more powerful than being in the presence of someone you admire who is able to replicate the soundtrack of your life. Nothing will replace that. Hands down. I guarantee it.”
