There’s no question that Barack Obama is the most celebrated United States President in Hip Hop history. And last night (January 20), some of music’s most noted figures stepped out in elegance for the Hip Hop Inaugural Ball. Originally launched by Russell Simmons, the event at the Harman Center For The Arts honored President Obama’s work as he ushers in his second term in office.

Hosted by La La Anthony and Terrence J, the event honored Hip Hop legends MC Lyte and Doug E. Fresh with Lifetime Achievement Awards. 2Chainz was honored with the Street Soldier award, for his work with ex-felons through his “Respect My Vote!” campaign.

The Playaz Circle alum was honored to be recognized for his mission off the charts:

“Doing my thing on the charts is one thing, but to be getting honored on another avenue, it just feels like a blessing. I’m keeping my head leveled and staying humble,” said 2 Chainz.
