Trae Tha Truth Shares “Hometown Hero” Album

Trae Tha Truth’s new album title, Hometown Hero, is more than an empty platitude. His tireless work during the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey resulted in him receiving the key to the city of Houston, so Hometown Hero is an appropriate name.

The veteran MC’s latest solo LP features 12 tracks and includes songs like “What About Us,” which examines life in Houston following the devastating natural disaster. Trae gets a few assists on the project with T.I., Mozzy, Young Thug and Boosie Badazz making guest appearances.

Trae Tha Truth worked tirelessly to help the city of Houston in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey. With that in mind, Hometown Hero is an appropriate name for his next album.

HipHopDX spoke to Trae about what motivated him to choose this album title, and he shared a few different reasons for its selection.

“A couple of things … that’s the city name [for me] as far as the people and as far as the adversity the people have faced,” Trae told DX. “The people are rooting for me at home and elsewhere too, so it just felt like the right title … Tomorrow, the news is also breaking that I go to court with Radio One. We trying to get that ban lifted. You know [they] gonna try to manipulate it, but it’s time to move forward.”

The ABN leader also unveiled a March 16 release date for the album, sharing the spotlight with frequent collaborator Mozzy — who is releasing a new EP titled Spiritual Conversations on March 2 — in an Instagram post. Trae’s upcoming project will be the follow-up to Tha Truth Pt. 3 album, which dropped in July 2017.

    1. That album cover is a blatant rip-off of Jeru The Damaja’s “The Sun Rises in the East”!!! Even the font too!!! STOP BITING!

    2. Z-Ro the king of Houston Trae biting his swag. Z-Ro released an album called The Crown and Melting the Crown last year and now Trae on some Troll shiii naming his albums in a similar fashion.Trae lost a lot of respect from the other rappers in Houston when he sold out and joined T.I.P. Grand Hustle after he jumped ship from J.Prince and Rap-A-Lot. It was a slap in the face to Lil J. His last album was trash straight up. I’m listening to Paul Wall new shiii Slim Thug and Z-Ro the king of the ghetto…

    3. He should have dropped What about us during the floods and gave the proceeds to the victims..just seems sad this way..he’s done a lot for the community that’s why he’s still around but he’s no Zro on the mic…ABN should do an album for the city! Then go their separate ways…maybe around the NBA playoffs…just seems like a good idea imo

      1. He’ll naw he ain’t no z-ro. Mo city can hold down a track on his own, this dude has to rely on guests just to come close to being considered dope. That monotone shit just makes him sound basic, to the point where even if his wording is fresh his flow ruins it. Mumble rap’s grandfather.

    4. As much as I support Trae tha Truth music over the years, I know his music went downhill when he left that Houston sound rocking with Grand Hustle. He should’ve kept his same format instead of switching up completely. He has to know his music ain’t hitting like it once was

    5. Release now, and no proceeds go to the victims. If he would have released this 4 months ago, he’d have to donate 100% of the proceeds to the flood victims. Don’t go hating on JJ Watt and then support this phoney. And screw all the Zro comparisons. Trae is no where near Zro’s talent. Not even close. Trae is not the more talented of the two.

    6. Trae is well respected in Houston I don’t know what the hell y’all talking bout I’m pretty sure him and zro got problems that we don’t know about shit they cousins plus I think Trae didn’t jus wanted to be a local rapper like zro cus zro is only known in a few southern states maybe but zro go hard tho
