This week, Big K.R.I.T. stated fans’ appetites for more music, releasing yet another free release in King Remembered In Time. Also, the White House found itself responding to a track by Jay-Z. Finally, Tyga’s Hotel California resulted in middling reviews and sales.
Big K.R.I.T. Releases King Remembered In Time
Big K.R.I.T. isn’t slowing down when it comes to the free projects. King Remembered in Time, a follow-up to last year’s 4Eva N’ A Day, dropped on Wednesday (April 10th). The project features Bun B, Future, Trinidad James, Wiz Khalifa, Smoke DZA and others. The release boasts 17 tracks, and is K.R.I.T.’s first fee project since his Def Jam Records debut, Live From the Underground. Jay-Z’s “Open Letter” & Trip To Cuba Result In White House Press Secretary Statement
This week, Jay-Z ended up on the White House’s radar. After members of Congress were investigating Jay-Z and Beyonce’s trip to Cuba, as well as Senator Marco Rubio, even after reports that the trip was sanctioned and licensed through the United States Treasury Department, Jay-Z released the track “Open Letter.” The track, produced by Timbaland and featuring Swizz Beatz, has Jay addressing the Cuba critcism. “Obama said ‘chill, you gonna get me impeached’/ But you don’t need this shit anyway/ Chill with me on the beach,” rhymed Hov, which resulted in a question being asked of the White House Press Secretary, who had to assure reporters that there had been no communication between Jay-Z and President Obama.
Tyga’s Hotel California Doesn’t Move Reviewers Or The Charts
Though Tyga was able to drum up some interest for Hotel California in his song “Hit Em Up,” featuring vocals from Tupac Shakur, Tyga wasn’t able to get the late emcee’s vocals cleared. The Young Money rapper doesn’t seem to have reaped the benefits, as his album is projected to move between 45,000 and 50,000 copies in its first week – notably less than the 61,000 copies Careless World: Rise of the Last King moved.
Tyga didn’t fare much better in HipHopDX’s review: “In similar fashion to Weezy’s I Am Not a Human Being II, the production, features and overall material on Hotel California displays a regressive sense of originality from Tyga. His sexual callousness wears off quickly, and what listeners are left with is a release better fit for a Ramada Inn than a Four Seasons. Hopefully the reservation is refundable.”
