One of the most talked-about tracks leading up to the release of Tyga’s Hotel California was the cut “Hit Em Up,” featuring vocals from Pac.

The final version of the cut, which shares the name of Tupac’s infamous 1996 diss record towards The Notorious B.I.G. and other East Coast rappers, ended up not having the late emcee’s vocals on it.

In an interview with Skee TV, the Young Money emcee explained why Pac didn’t make the final cut. “I put it out before, but when it comes to clearing stuff, it takes time. It’s not like you can just call somebody and just like, bam! They gon’ hit you right back. It might take two, three weeks, it might take a month for his foundation to get back. At that time, we didn’t have enough time to wait.”

Tyga did entertain the idea of the cut in its original form ending up on a bonus version of the album.

Hotel California is expected to move 45,000 to 50,000 copies in its first week.
