The Hip Hop Week In Review: 8/29/2011 – 9/3/2011

Lil Wayne had one of his best weeks ever with the release of his new album Tha Carter IV, which may just sell a milli. T.I. had a less successful week, moving from prison to a halfway house before getting moved back to federal custody in less than 24 hours. Rick Ross and Kreayshawn almost took their beef to the next level at an awards show, while DMX showed he’s still got it.

Lil Wayne Unleashes Tha Carter IV, Breaks iTunes Record For First Week Sales

The time has finally come. Lil Wayne unleashed his oft-delayed Tha Carter IV, which, by the numbers, puts Weezy back on top. Projected to sell 925,000-975,000 copies in its first week, TC4 already broke Jay-Z and Kanye West’s record with Watch the Throne for most first week copies sold on iTunes – only Weezy did it in just four days. DX also chopped it up with Tech N9ne, who explained how he ended up on TC4‘s standout cut “Interlude”  and what it was like to get a co-sign from the Young Money chief.

T.I. Gets Released From Prison, Only To Return To Federal Custody Later That Day

T.I. has been put through the grinder this week. After serving almost all of his 11-month sentence, Tip was released to a halfway house on Wednesday morning, with news shortly following that his novel Power & Beauty would drop in October and that he was shooting a new reality show to air on VH1 in December. But not even a day later, he was hauled back to prison because officials had beef with him riding a luxury tour bus from the facility to his halfway home. Tip is currently back in federal custody.

Kreayshawn & Rick Ross Camps Beef With One Another

Kreayshawn and Rick Ross almost took their beef to the next level at this past Sunday’s MTV Video Music Awards. Members of each rapper’s camps exchanged words, but tensions simmered before anything popped off. Meanwhile, Kreay’s partner-in-rhyme, V-Nasty, declared that she would no longer use the N-word, while Rick Ross got props from Drake and DJ Khaled, who called his next album a classic in the making.

DMX Performs Three Solid Comeback Shows, Reveals New Album

The dog is back. After a lengthy stint in jail, DMX gave his first post-prison performance in Dallas, Texas at the House of Blues, showing no signs of wear. During the week, he performed two more gigs – one in Houston, Texas, where he brought out Scarface, and another in Michigan. To top it off, he revealed that he already recorded his next album, though it’s unclear when the offering will drop.

    1. My baby boo weezy doin numbers. Quit hatin. That C4 is just what I needed for when I’m pleasurin myself at night.

    2. wtt is the album of the year come on jeezy be number 2 weezy sucks c4 trash baby piad for the half the album sales wayne want see no money due to that

    3. omg : mane : hope my mans T.I. get out of that : dnt judge em @ all : we all ppl : smh : y he can’t ride a fancy big ass tour bus: i woulda proli did the same or similar : celebration : been in jail twice

    4. Everyones acting like C4 was complete trash, no it wasnt good but wasnt horrible a 5/10

      WTT 6/10

But C4 clearly does not deserve the sales its getting. Damns shame

      1. I honestly dont know how someone can rate C4 like 5/10 and then say WTT is barely better. Its a joke. If C4 is a 5/10 than WTT is a 9/10. Id choose WTT over C4 8 days a week.

    5. Carter 4 sucks and why are they still talking about the whole Rick Ross situation. Dude is a clown and this proves it, he wont step to another man but he will step to an 80 pound white chick on the red carpet lol. Let me see him step to 50 and watch 50 smash dude. Isnt that where their whole beef stems from, because he claims 50 looked at him wrong at the BET awards? If so then why didnt he step to him there? Cuz dude’s a clown.

      1. It’s called being a rap artist. Only a select few really live the shit they rap about. Buck, DMX, Shyne, and a few others

    6. go ahead people… hate on wayne. but all i gotta say is look at the sales. it proves it self. people love to hate on eminem but hes the greatest of all time when it comes to record sales. this is what pisses me off. people hate hate hate, but if your not talking about record sales or itunes sales then its all a matter about OPINION. so people stop hatin.

      1. I think comments like this are whats wrong with hip hop. Judging quality based on units sold. Sure, McDonalds sells the most hamburgers but is it good for you or even good period? Jus cus fans dont like something they gotta be hatin. More power to that man for making money, I applaud that, but compared to the last Carter, this one stinks.. jussayin

      2. it doesnt suck but its not as good as the carter 3. ill give you that. im just saying. people love to hate when no one wants to hear it. its about opinion . thats it.

      3. This is just the same type of backlash Jay got for releasing the mediocre Blueprint 2 after the classic Blueprint anyone who drops a classic is murdered on their next record if its not a classic C3 kills C4

I GOT THAT CODEINE-CORRUPTED SEMEN ALL UP IN ME SO ITS LIKE I’M PART OF YMCM. DONT WORRY WEEZY, ILL DRAIN YA NUTS WITH ONLY MY MOUTH SO I CAN DEFEND YOU ONLINE AGAINST THESE PEOPLE YOU’LL NEVER MEET. I LOVE YOU WEEZY. DO YOU LOVE ME? WHY YOU LOOKING AWAY? WHAT DO YOU MEAN THATS A HARD QUESTION TO ANSWER? DRAKE? I CAN LOVE YOU MORE THAN DRAKE CAN. GIVE ME A CHANCE. JUST TELL ME YOU LOVE ME THATS ALL I WANT TO HEAR

    9. LiL Wayne is alright or soso. He’s definitely not a favorite on the music lists, But when out looking for music he’s not the only music meal that I want to order from

I SAY BLAME THE RADIO & MUSIC MEDIA & THE DJ’S FOR THE LACK OF VARIETY IN HIPHOP & RAPMUSIC. THEY WON’T to BREAK NEW ACTS BECAUSE THEIRS INTEREST PROTECTED THAT’S JUST MY THEORY. ALSO THE HIPHOP NATION HASn’t TO BE WILLING TO SUPPORT THEIR FAVORITE UNDERGROUND ARTISTS WHEN THEY PUT AND ALBUM BY BUYING VIA DOWNLOAD & CD SALES.
