Tyler, The Creator, Kanye West and Nicki Minaj were just a few of the performers to win at the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards.

The show, which featured performances from Jay-Z and Kanye West, Beyoncé, Chris Brown and Lil Wayne, broadcasted live from Staples Center in Los Angeles, California, taking an alternative approach and airing without a host this year.

Tyler, The Creator beat out Wiz Khalifa, Big Sean, Foster the People and Kreayshawn for Best New Artist, lacing his acceptance speech with a string of expletives.

Nicki Minaj nabbed Best Hip Hop video for “Super Bass,” edging out Chris Brown’s “Look at Me Now,” Kanye West’s “All of the Lights,” Lil Wayne’s “6 Foot 7 Foot” and Lupe Fiasco’s “The Show Goes On.”
