Snoop Dogg is releasing a new album produced by Dr. Dre, the West Coast rap legend has announced.
Snoop dropped the bombshell during a recent appearance on Stephen A. Smith’s Know Mercy podcast, where he revealed the project is called Missionary and is due to be finished in November, although it’s unclear how soon it will be released.
Next month will mark 29 years since Snoop and Dre joined forces on the former’s first album Doggystyle, which extended the winning partnership they formed on 1992’s The Chronic — to record-breaking sales.
“I’ma tell you this, you’re the first one to hear this: me and Dr. Dre have been working on an album for the past two months,” Snoop said at the 34:30 mark.
“And it’ll be done in November. It’s produced by Dr. Dre, it’s our 30th anniversary to Doggystyle. And the name of the album is Missionary.”
When Smith asked: “Why that name?” Snoop replied: “The first album was Doggystyle,” prompting a roar of laughter from the sports personality. “That is beautiful. I love it, man,” Smith commented.
Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre have dropped numerous teasers about new music plans in recent months. In August, the legendary duo were spotted in the studio with Eminem, who posted a photo of their session on Twitter with the caption: “just a few bros..hangin out.”
Weeks later, more photos of Snoop and Dre’s studio reunion surfaced, showing the longtime collaborators sharing a laugh while seemingly getting down to serious business. Diddy also swung by the session and revealed Dre coached him through a vocal take, calling it a “dream come true.”
“[Dre and I] are cooking up a little something,” Snoop told ET at the premiere of his Day Shift movie in August. “I don’t wanna talk about it too much, but we’re back together again. It’s been 30 years since we worked on a record, and we’re doin’ something, we’re workin’ on something.”
This year’s Super Bowl halftime show proved that the Snoop Dogg-Dr. Dre partnership remains alive and well. In February, the former Death Row duo put on an all-Hip Hop spectacle alongside Eminem, Kendrick Lamar, 50 Cent and Mary J. Blige.
The star-studded performance won three awards at the 2022 Creative Arts Emmys, including Outstanding Variety Special (Live), Outstanding Music Direction and Outstanding Production Design for a Variety Special (Area).
Missionary will serve as Snoop Dogg’s 20th studio album and his second this year following the aptly-titled Bacc On Death Row, which marked his return to the storied West Coast gangsta rap label as its proud new owner.
Snoop and Dre’s most recent collaboration, meanwhile, arrived last year in the form of “ETA,” an exclusive song for Grand Theft Auto: Online that also featured Busta Rhymes and Anderson .Paak.
Lame title. I would have named this one “Anal.”
I laughed so hard, I farted
I laughed so hard, I sharted and ate it 🙂
..or “Froggystyle”
You can have it. Release it in your virtual worlds and bring back doggystyle and the chronic on spotify. Ps awful title
its gonna come out and none of the tracks will be produced by dre because hes washed as a producer.
no idea.
Let’s see what the album cover art looks like. And would be better if daz n Dre did the beats. With only all the original artist from doggystyle. A true successor to doggystyle that would be
Missionary? What was the mission? To push being a gangsta weed smoker to millions of youth who tried to emulate that style ending up in prison or worse? Way to go…feel better about yourselves now?
They’re talking about the sex position
You’re an idiot
Hey man, hope it’s some new, refreshing Dr Dre and snoop. Make music for today. Make your own style of music and do it however you want, but don’t try to repeat history. Just make history.
DeToX DETOX dEtOx RELASPE 2 rElAsPe 2 ReLaSpE 2 PAC S TIL ALIVE
15 years later….
“Yeah, we fiddin’ to come out with this new project called, uh, um.. what was it called again”?
Whack ass title. Next album gonna be called “reverse cowgirl” huh.
That’s a real whack album title. Doggystyle made sense because it’s snoop doggy dogg… missionary? It’s just a random sex position. Stupidest name ever.
Staryed at the back, now hes on top. It makes perfect sense.
You’re reaching so hard to create bogus metaphors. And idk what Snoop can be considered on top of, aside from being a rich sell out who will so anything for a paycheck. He was on top of the game in the mid 90s with his great work. I don’t think many would consider Snoop to be a very talented rapper, and he certainly hasn’t given us a great album since 12+ years ago minimum.
Huh? Snoop was a huge star before Doggystyle dropped. He got big as soon as his first drop 187. Then his work on the chronic made him a huge star. He wasn’t “in back” when Doggystyle dropped.
Exactly ignorants got no brain to work that out.
Reply was for ??? Not dopey Jay
A sell-out and a washed up dude together, now you know you in trouble.
You’re a piece of shit
Cool, but where the Mt Westmore album?
That album came out on some streaming platform only….same as Black Star….although these guys don’t like Apple, I hate when they don’t release it on there, because I’m locked to apple myself….So although I hate it, I can feel their pain
The Mt. Westmore album only exists in “the metaverse.” Yeah. Weird shit.
I ain’t believing shit when it comes to Andre Young ese!
I’m skeptical with any project involving Dr. Dre.
Dre’s weird dude, always inviting people over and making them record the same verse 50 times 50 times. He won’t give them a copy or it, and he never releases it.
imagine worth of the vault once he passes
Like you know. Hater just hatin cause you ain’t doin things like this
WHAT’S THERE TO HATE ABOUT? NGZ JUST WANT TO HEAR THE MUSIC.
His last few albums Dogg sh### wats to hate…
What’s there to hate about? Dre has stiffed us for literal DECADES, promising “detox is coming”… when was Detox announced? Point is, he’s over promised and under delivered more than any artist I can think of in modern history.
IDK WHY YOU ARE ALL COMING AT ME SIDEWAYS. I WAS AGREEING WITH LARRY718. WOW. I’D HIP TOSS ALL OF YOU INTO A TRASH BIN IRL.
album will sell as well as that 213 album sold RIP Nate Dogg
YeH whatever man.
Great album title. Looking for it.
Suge is executive producer
Finally. Some ground breaking hip hop. Best news I’ve heard in a while!!!!!!
Shit gonna bump hard. Looking forward to it.
It wont even go GOLD.
