Kanye West During TMZ Live: Slavery For 400 Years Sounds Like “A Choice”

Kanye West kept up his non-stop media output by showing up for TMZ Live on Tuesday (May 1), where emotions ran high.

The interview started off with a question about the Make America Great Again hat West was photographed wearing last week but quickly turned into a whole other animal. From scientology and slavery to his admission he was once addicted to opioids, ‘Ye commanded the TMZ newsroom with an impassioned approach to the interview.

“I’m not coming up here to justify anything,” he said. “You can’t tell me nothing. I made the song. You can’t tell me what I’m supposed to do.”

During his diatribe, West said slavery for 400 years sounded like “a choice,” which caused an uproar in the newsroom. TMZ staffer Van Lathan confronted Ye about his views and said seeing West wearing the MAGA hat hurt black people.

“I think what you’re doing right now is actually an afterthought,” Lathan said. “”Kanye, you’re entitled to your opinion, you’re entitled to believe whatever you want, but there is fact and real-world, real-life consequence behind everything you just said.”

He continued, “And while you are making music and being an artist and living the life that you’ve earned by being a genius, the rest of us in society have to deal with these threats to our lives. We have to deal with the marginalization that’s come from the 400 years of slavery that you said for our people was a choice.”

It ended with West hugging Lathan and preaching love at Lathan’s desk.

“Sorry I hurt you with my words,” he concluded.

Elsewhere in the interview, West admitted he was addicted to opioids prior to his hospitalization for a mental breakdown in 2016.

“I was on opioids,” he shouted. “Two days after I get off opioids, I’m in the hospital. Everyone listen to this. Two days before I went into the hospital, I was addicted to opioids. I was trying to look good for y’all … I didn’t want y’all to call me fat so I had liposuction.”

He also doubled-down on his love for Donald Trump and said, “My righteous point of view is free thought,” he said. “I’ve never been into politics. I just love Trump. That’s my boy.”

‘Ye also talked about Daz Dillinger putting a “Crip Alert” on him.

“I see Crips have a hit on Kanye West,” he said. “I was like, ‘This is like a Malcolm X movie. They really going to send someone to kill me.’ But then I saw it was something like they were going to beat me up. That’s so dope. They love me. Daz love me and I love Daz.”

The Life Of Pablo rapper added, “You can live through an ass whooping. The idea is probably to beat sense into me.”

    But ???

From there, Ye was joined by conservative commentator Candace Owens who West voiced his support for on Twitter earlier this month.

    1. Kanye basically mean, aint no way they could have made him a slave back then… But actually he still is a slave, it just modern day slavery. Trick daddy made a song and video called Amerikka. Real song. And from what i see from everyday media cover up, hell yeah Eazy-E was a cover up. He didnt die from aids

      1. Dump ass..salves don’t go around saying, doing, buying whatever they want, whenever they want. A lot of blacks would rather play the race card than do for themselves.

    2. What’s really sad is he actually believes what he’s saying…the pawn who would be king…

      1. Trump paid his ass… We all remember he was hard up for cash when he was begging mark Zuckerberg for some money

    3. kanye why do you like trump? do you want a wall did you like the muslim ban? Do you like that net neutrality ended?

Also tell the women being trafficked in asia that “slavery is a chocie”

    4. American politics is a joke! There’s no other nation that is like yours! Everything about your nation is so race driven! Maybe it’s time you catch up with the rest of the modern world!

    5. Check this out America is the land of free!!! Freedom to do what we want and say!!! Basically Ye going against the grain he not following TIP YG and others. Mac miller made a song called Donald trump and Mac miller actually making more money cuz everyone is listening to that song. We all know Kanye is crazy and he just putting on a show for everyone! I just feel like everyone trying to put him under the scope. Just like Em album it was good it wasn’t great but it was good for someone running out shit to say. Kanye has mastered the art of getting everyone attention and it’s working.. if TIP didn’t agree with the song then why do it? Oh yeah it has Kanye name on it equal money. I just hate all the hate off one person a opinion… just thoughts

      1. He is crazy, but he’s not putting on a show…he just happens to think differently than most that “look” like him, actually he thinks differently than a lot of people regardless of race. But his race expects him to think like they do simply becuz of his color. He wasn’t crazy when he said Bush don’t care about black people, but he’s crazy now simply becuz he sees shit a different way. Kanye ain’t out to defend Trump, he’s out here to defend his right to think what he wants. Trump just so happened to expose how fucking crazy and unreasonable we are as a society. Hate him all you want but the overreaction to anything “Trump” really got us looking foolish as a society.

    6. This is what happens when you sell your soul you make ignorant statements like this he needs his head chopped off point blank,

    7. Cant believe that ignorant tmz “journalist” called Kayne a genius. This is why he turned delusional because people made this mediocre talented dude believe he is a genius-

      1. Agree didn’t he copy his whole producing style from dipsets producers the heat makers. I never jumped on the whole Kanye bandwagon

        1. Yo I’m not saying he wasnt a good Producer just that he never been a good Musician overall. He is no Writer and he is surely no designer and no influencer either. The people producing his stuff are. He used to be a good producer 10 Years ago but he fell off and now he cant even do the only thing he was good at without the help of other people.

    8. When the TMZ employee says that there are “real world consequences to everything you just said.”

    9. He is entitled to his opinion but I see he’s just too far gone for even common sense to reach! Plays Jay-Z Ignorant Shit ft Beanie Sigel

    10. Being black has become an excuse for everything. It is justified in some situations, but now days it is used to justify every bad thing that happens in ones life. Few black people ever take ownership for their actions SMH.

      1. It’s funny you say “take ownership for ones action”, what ownership has the American government taken for destabilising the Middle East, Vietnam, slavery ? just to name a few.

        1. Lol, you prove my point exactly. Never once did I say America was always right or that America takes ownership for all of its wrongs. Just because someone else does something wrong, it justifies your own wrongs? Smh

    11. Kanye would be perfect for Samuel L Jackson’s part in Django 2 movie. tarantino..that’s talent right there. no need to audition

      1. You can’t blame him with all the dinduisms and crying over shit that ended like half a century ago.

        1. Don’t be ignorant. Jim Crow, desegregation, the burning of Black Walstreet and so much more have all happened after slavery was outlawed. You can’t legislate a person’s heart. Just because something is illegal doesn’t mean people will adhere.

    12. The negros chose to come here and pick cotton, unfortunately they can not adapt to white society. Negros belong in the jungle.

      1. So dumb! Why would you make yourself look stupid writing something like that? Or was you trying to be funny?

    13. Racist White boys and trolls can make comments with hate, but Black men who post the truth and try to educate post are not posted. I wonder who really owns this website. If you want to know why slaves didn’t revolt look up look up the psychological effects prisoners of war from the Korean war had after they were tortured. The same brainwashing was done in slavery.

    14. Dont listen to the gatekeepers in corporate media like HHDX, go to the raw source and see for yourself, and make your own decision. Don’t experience current events through the filter of their propaganda. HHDX didnt do this interview. TMZ did. TMZ has the raw data. Go to TMZ then. HHDX have an agenda to take the raw data and twist it to control people’s thoughts and feelings.
At this point Kanye is their enemy, so theyll take any odd or off color concept that he expresses, sound byte it, and attempt to use it to destroy him, because he is a glitch in the Matrix.

      1. HHDX, gatekeepers of corporate media?!?
Boy, what gate are u standing in front of? Kanye is gonna eat well as long as guys like you are out here…they say its one born every minute…Kanye’s the glitch in the Matrix?!? My guy he is exactly woild they would love to mass produce…

    15. I’m a make my point again. At one point in time slaves outnumbered Whites in the South, but because they were mentally brainwashed they never organized a revolt on a massive level. Yes, there have been slave revolts but they’ve always failed. I understand what Kanye was saying but he didn’t use the right words to explain it. Yes mental slavery exists today and people are afraid to have freedom of thought because we live in a pc(pussy) society, but the problem with that is that being too p.c causes us to ignore the truth whether it offends someone or not.The real purpose of the second amendment was for Whites to form militias if a massive slave revolt would happen.
