Young Jeezy will make his acting debut as part of Ice Cube‘s upcoming feature film, Janky Promoters. The film marks Cube‘s first original screenplay since his 2002 offering, Friday After Next. Jeezy, whose real name is Jay Jenkins, will play a somewhat familiar role–that of an A-list rapper. Ice Cube and Mike Epps hatch a plan to book a show for Jeezy‘s character, only to see it go wrong in every possible way. Marcus Raboy, who was also part of Friday After Next, will direct.
Janky Promoters will be Ice Cube‘s first film under his new partnership with Dimension Films and Bob Weinstein. The partnership pays Cube less as an actor, but allows him to see a larger percentage of back-end profits once the film recoups what is reportedly a $10 million budget. Janky Promoters will begin shooting this summer and is expected to be released some time in 2009. Jeezy is also working on his third album, The Recession.
