J. Cole surprised many people when he announced he would be playing professional basketball in Rwanda, Africa, right in the middle of his album rollout for The Off-Season. It was even more surreal to see him take the court and show the game he worked on while crafting the album.

Towards the end of his run with the Rwanda Patriots BBC, J. Cole said he planned to get better, and it looks like he’s keeping his promise on that. Over the weekend, J. Cole linked up with Portland Trailblazers star forward Carmelo Anthony for a quick workout and pickup game in New York City’s Life Time at Sky courts.

In footage shared on social media, Cole and Melo get some work done on the same team. Although the video is focused primarily on Melo raining jump shots on his defender, fans get to see the Dreamville boss hit a three-pointer and dish out an assist.

Hopefully, he can get his basketball fix in with the upcoming The Off-Season Tour taking up much of his time in the coming months. Fans were so impressed by the display of skills that they recommended Cole and Melo join the struggling Team USA at the 2021 Olympics.

Cole is looking to impact the game of basketball far beyond taking the court with a pro team. The North Carolina native and his label agreed to resurrect Chi-League pro-am basketball to the Windy City in August. The pro-am is set to take place on August 8 and run for three consecutive weekends on Chicago State’s campus.
