Joey Bada$$ made his debut as part of 50 Cent’sPower universe on Sunday (July 18). The Brooklyn native stars in the role of Unique, who is billed as the most powerful drug dealer in all of New York City, for Power Book III: Raising Kanan.

Joey Bada$$ received a solid amount of airtime in the debut episode. He runs the streets as the rival drug dealer to Kanan Stark’s family. The show takes place in ’90s NYC with Kanan growing up in Jamaica, Queens just as 50 Cent did.

Fans and some of Joey’s fellow Hip Hop compatriots gave him props for his performance. One, in particular, was Freddie Gibbs, who is gearing up to make an acting debut in Hollywood of his own.

“@joeyBADASS killed that shit. Again,” he wrote.

Joey Bada$$ was a longtime fan of the Power series and couldn’t have been happier to get the call after auditioning to be part of the cast.

“I just hope everyone is as excited as I am,” he told The Grio. “That’s the only worry and downside if you can call it that.”

Even before episode one hit the air, Starz already gave Season 2 of Power Book III: Raising Kanan a greenlight.

“One season isn’t enough to tell the coming-of-age story of Kanan Stark and his mother, Raq, a fierce and successful woman who is a force of nature,” Starz CEO Jeffrey Hirsch said. “The anticipation globally for more of the Power Universe made it clear that the Kanan story needs to continue.”

In April, Joey Bada$$ took home his first Oscar when Two Distant Strangers — which is executive produced by Diddy — won Best Live Action Short Film at the 93rd Academy Awards.
