HipHopDX Premiere

Mega Ran has enlisted the help of director Ikuo Yamamoto for his latest video “Sumimasen” featuring New Orleans-bred artist Alfred Banks. Shot in Japan, the visual encompasses the Philly MC’s sharp wit, love of video games and penchant for rhyming.

“I had so much fun doing this,” Mega Ran tells HipHopDX. “I travel to Japan so often that I’d never considered shooting a video there until I saw Ikuo’s work. He loves Hip Hop just as much as I do, so it was a natural fit. We turned a rainy day into a fun shoot.”

In terms of the track itself, Mega Ran explains, “The song sounds different than what I came up doing and listening to Hip Hop wise, and I had to convince myself that was okay.

“Hip Hop is forever growing and changing, so it’s only right that we continue to grow and change as well and have fun doing it. That’s the most important part.”

Produced by blossoming beatsmith Lio Maks, “Sumimasen” — which roughly translates to “Excuse Me” — will appear on a special split vinyl between Mega Ran and Arizona band Bear Ghost. The project is expected to arrive this summer.

Ahead of the release, Mega Ran is heading out on tour with fellow nerdcore rappers MC Lars, MC Frontalot and Schäffer The Darklord on the Mt. Nerdcore Tour. The run kicks off on April 30 in Fargo, North Dakota and wraps up on May 16 in Winter Park, Florida.
