Before YNW Melly was charged with two counts of first-degree murder, the burgeoning 19-year-old rapper wasn’t exactly a household name. But in the wake of his arrest, Melly’s “Murder On My Mind” single has catapulted to No. 1 on the Apple Music chart.

According to a tweet from Chart Data, the track reached the coveted spot on Saturday (February 16).

Released in 2017, “Murder On My Mind” serves as Melly’s breakout single and has piqued fans’ curiosity since he was taken into custody earlier this week.

Despite its dark lyrical content, the song couldn’t have been a confessional like many people have concluded. The fatal shootings took place in October 2018, months after the song was released.

Melly and YNW Bortlen stand accused of killing two of their closest friends, YNW Sakchaser and YNW Juvy. Authorities claim Melly and Bortlen staged the crime scene to look like a drive-by shooting after they alleged shot them.

Shortly before he turned himself in, Melly addressed the situation on Instagram and dismissed any talk of his involvement as nothing more than “rumors.”

“To all my fans and supporters no I did not get locked up in Washington, but I am turning myself in today I want you guys to know I love you and appreciate every single one of y’all,” he wrote. “A couple months ago I lost my two brothers by violence and now the system want to find justice.

“Unfortunately a lot of rumors and lies are being said but no worries god is with me and my brother @ynw.bortlen and we want y’all to remember it’s a ynw Family I love you @ynwsakchaser1 and @ynwjuvy #freeus.”
