Busta Rhymes has been lighting up his Twitter timeline with colorful announcements lately. After unveiling the first Flipmode Squad single in 20 years last week, Bus-A-Bus is back with another tantalizing tidbit of information — a new Flipmode album is on it way.

Early Friday morning (October 26), the storied MC/producer tweeted in all caps, “SALUTE THE 1ST LADY OF THE FLIPMODE FAMILY @therealrahdigga
NEW FLIPMODE SQUAD ALBUM SOON COME!!! #THECONGOMERATE!!!!”

Flipmode Squad — Busta, Rah Digga, Rampage, Spliff, Baby Sham and Lord Have Mercy — kicked off their career with 1998’s The Imperial. Meanwhile, Busta was gaining steam with his solo career. He’s has nine studio albums under his belt, culminating with 2012’s Year of the Dragon.

Fans have been anticipating a Busta solo album to drop for the past nine years. In a recent conversation with Ebro Darden and Zane Lowe, the Flipmode mastermind explained Dr. Dre was partially to blame for the delay.

“Nine albums later, I’m working on an album for nine years,” Busta said. “The album that I’m getting ready to release, I’ve been recording this shit since 2000 and fucking nine. I credit that patience to the Dr. Dre experience because when I was in Aftermath, this was the first time that I was stripped of all the memorabilia of my accolades and what I’ve accomplished and how great Busta Rhymes is; in my own head and from the people and from my fucking résumé.” [apple_news_ad type=”any”]

Although Busta hasn’t revealed a release date or title for either the solo project or Flipmode album, we’ll likely get at least one before the year is up.
