The New Orleans rapper, Awood Johnson aka Magic,
who hails from the New Orleans’ Katrina devastated Ninth Ward, first came up
through the underground circuit and eventually signed with Master P’s, No
Limit label on behalf of P’s brother, C-Murder. It was
originally intended for Magic to become part of the group TRU,
but P insisted on him going dolo. The relationship grew strained
after many other No Limit artists had already left and Magic has
sinced spoken freely about P and his poor business practices.
The son of a locally prominent jazz musician, Magic is an exciting new
prospect from the Hurrican ravaged region. He will release his TVT debut,
tenatively titled Before & After in 2007.
Magic said of his recent signing, “In the past I¹ve been in some bad
label situations, which has held my music back. But with TVT Records
behind me, I can finally make the mark on this industry I know I was meant to
make,TVT’s so strong in the South, and together we¹re
gonna take it to the very bottom — the Ninth Ward!”
Speaking on behalf of the region, TVT Records President Steve
Gottlied said ” The talent coming out of New Orleans has always been great, but Magic
has a real raw power in his voice and raps that will connect with fans all
over the country, Magic has a real story to tell and the talent to make
people listen.”
