Uncle Luke took to Instagram over the weekend to blast the Republican Party in light of the recent comments made by their presidential candidate, Donald Trump. In a clip from 2005 published by The Washington Post on Friday (October 7), Trump describes flirting with a married woman and being disappointed that he wasn’t able to smash her. He then describes how his celebrity status gives him special power over women and he can “grab them by the pussy” whenever he wants.
Throughout his IG video, Uncle Luke, a member of the 2 Live Crew, slammed the GOP over their hypocrisy. The group’s 1989 album As Nasty As They Wanna Be sparked a legal obscenity battle in the music industry because of its explicit sexual content. The case eventually played out in the Supreme Court. Throughout the battle, Luke and co. fought for artistic freedom, specifically the use of parody in their music. A state court decision against 2 Live Crew in 1990 marked the first time a musical recording was ever officially declared obscene in the United States.
“I gotta speak on this Donald Trump thing. Isn’t this the party that came after me?” the man born Luther Campbell says in his video response, referencing the aforementioned legal battle. “… I spent millions and millions of dollars dealing with this Republican Party. Are you fucking serious? And now your nominee is out there talking ‘bout ‘grab her by the coochie?!’ Are you serious? I want all my money back. All you Republican right wing, family Christian value people — ‘we are the party of Christian values,’ give me my muthafucking millions and millions of dollars back for fighting this un-senseless war for free speech. I want my money back.”
Trump apologized for his comments and chalked up the private conversation to “locker room talk,” but that still is not enough as many continue to drag him in the aftermath of the leak, including at the second presidential debate.
