Little Brother has become the darlings of underground hip-hop, thanks to a sound and vibe that brings back memories of the golden era (1990-1995) of hip-hop. And now with their major label debut, The Minstrel Show, on the horizon one has to wonder if they will be the darlings of mainstream hip-hop as well.
Well on Tuesday night, Phonte and Big Pooh (9th Wonder was not in attendance) debuted their album for members of the press and the feedback received was nothing short of “incredible.”
The album plays as a sort of concept album that compares today’s hip-hop to the minstrel show’s from back in the day (blackface, shucking and jiving). The radio station concept from The Listening is still intact although this time it has been bought out by UBN (U Black Ni—as). As the album plays out as a satire about the current state of hip-hop, Little Brother is looking to take hip-hop back to where it should be.
The album features the likes of Elzhi and members of the Justus League family including YaZarah, Joe Scudda, Darien Brockington, Chaundon and includes production from 9th Wonder with a couple of tracks chipped in from Khrysis.
