Rhymesayers Entertainment has been pretty quiet over the last few months. But now the underground label looks to raise a few eyebrows with a plethora of new releases. Check for these albums coming soon…
P.O.S – The up and comer who dropped jaws across the country on the most recent Atmosphere tour, has a new album that dropping in late September titled Audition. Although the record is a solid hip-hop album, POS‘s history playing in punk bands definitely adds a certain sensibility to his album that you won’t find anywhere else. Super unique record from one of the youngest of the Rhymesayers stable. Check him back out on the road with Atmosphere later this fall.
I Self Divine – I Self‘s new album, Self Destruction comes out late September , and is a culmination of all the years spent paying dues in the rap game. His group The Micranots, has been responsible for some of the best independent hip-hop in the past ten years. This record straddles the line between street knowledge and conscious rap along the lines of KRS-ONE or Public Enemy.
Boom Bap Project – The Boom Bap Project‘s new album, Reprogram, will be on its way to stores soon. This is a straight-up, true school hip-hop record, featuring the likes of Dilated Peoples, Blackalicious, the Lifesavas and others. This Seattle crew has been in the game for 7 years now, and if you’re a fan of mid-90’s independent hip-hop, you should give these guys a listen. These guys are on tour with I Self Devine at the end of this month.

Felt – If you haven’t heard about it yet, the second installment of Felt is coming out September 20th, entitled Felt 2: A Tribute to Lisa Bonet. Felt is a concept album, each one dedicated to a special lady, with all songs written by Slug and Murs. The first felt was dedicated to Christina Ricci and is now a cult classic and this new album is dedicated to none other than everyone’s favorite Huxtable, aka Lisa Bonet. Production by Atmosphere‘s own Ant. This album is being released simultaneously (but not packaged with) a comic book done by Jim Mahfood (who has done stuff for Marvel Comics, DC Comics, as well the Clerks comic books) based solely on the songs off the record.
Atmosphere – Lastly, but probably the one everyone’s waiting for, is the new Atmosphere album, which is out in October. This album is the culmination of everything Atmosphere has done to this point: whereas Overcast and earlier recordings focused on Slug‘s impeccable rhyming skills, Seven’s Travels was a well-crafted album with top notch rhyming, for sure, but also well planned themes and song structures. This is the best of both those worlds: Slug is rapping his ass off on the record, more so than on either of the last two, but Ant‘s production on this album is beyond anything he has done so far.
