Missy Elliott is bringing television viewers into her search for talent when her new UPN reality show “Road to Stardom” debuts on January 5th.

The show focuses on thirteen aspiring singers and rappers as they travel with Missy on the road, and perform challenges in hopes of becoming the next rising star. At the time the show taped Missy was on tour alongside Beyonce and Alicia Keys. Contestants are followed through the challenges as well as showcasing what life is like on the road for them riding in a tour bus.

Steve Lobel, the road manager for the show says the series will help people realize what really goes on behind the music. “Everybody just watches TV and sees these artists in videos and they think it’s just about that”, he told Allhiphop. “They forget about the people behind the scenes, all the managers, the road managers and the tour managers who keep everything going day to day”.

The winner of the competition will win a recording contract with Missy’s label and $100,000. Each week Missy Elliott, singer Teena Marie, Dallas Austin and President of Violator Management Mona Scott judge the contestants and will vote one person off a week.
