T-Pain Says This Unexpected Rapper Made Auto-Tune Acceptable For ‘Everybody’

T-Pain‘s name has become synonymous with Auto-Tune, the processing software he used to get his distinct sound — but he says he got grief for it until someone else made it cool: Snoop Dogg.

In a new sit-down on The Big Podcast With Shaq, Teddy Pain was asked by Shaquille O’Neal if there had been any resistance to his Auto-Tune-drenched vocals when he first came out.

“Oh, that’s all there was,” T-Pain replied. “It was only resistance, until somebody cool did it. Who did that? Who made it cool? Snoop. Snoop did it, and it was totally fine. Everybody was like, okay, I guess we can listen to it.”

Although he doesn’t specify, T-Pain is probably talking about Snoop’s 2007 single “Sensual Seduction.” Notably, Snoop said that on that song, he was trying to “put a little T-Pain on it” with his Auto-Tune use.

Check the discussion out below, beginning at the six-minute mark.

In other T-Pain news, the singer was bombarded with accusations of being broke earlier this week after he opted to fly commercial instead of on a private jet, and now he’s hitting back at the claims by giving fans a tour of his lavish yacht.

The singer is currently staying on a boat, bitch!, and made sure to document it for anyone who previously had negative things to say.

“I guess I’m broke. Anyways here’s the yacht I’m staying on,” he said as he showed off the vacation home.

In the caption, he mocked the comments he’s been receiving with, “yOu dIdNt fLY pRIvaTe???”

Days earlier, T-Pain shared a video to his Instagram in which, on board an airplane, he broke down the cost of a private jet. He titled the video: “You wanna know how much a private jet costs?”

He held up an app on his phone that appeared to show the cost of chartering a private Gulfstream jet for a flight from Atlanta to Las Vegas and back: $126,574.

It was an extreme case, he pointed out, of “spending all this money to go make money.”

“Why would you do that? In what world is that smart?” he asked. “[If I did that], y’all would be like, he going broke again.”

He captioned the video: “If it don’t make dollars it don’t make sense!!! Pass me the Biscoff cookies.”

    1. Auto tune completely ruined hip hop. It’s ironic seeing everyone whine about AI when rappers have been sounding like vapid, uncreative robots for over a decade.

      1. Yeah, it’s super ironic that people don’t like listening to pre programmed robots as opposed to humans using voice effects to alter their tones.

      2. @pacman right. It’s almost like peolle enjoyed voice box effects, like used in songs such as “california love”, and ironically don’t support people using computers to write and compose entire works. They’re the same thing!!!

      3. Imagine being so brain dead that you think sampling a song that had auto tune is the same as rappers making entire albums using auto tune. You’re an idiot.
