Following his release from the Louisiana State Penitentiary at Angola in March of this year, Baton Rouge, Louisiana rapper Lil Boosie says he’s made a few lifestyle changes. According to Boosie, he no longer does drugs and has also surrounded himself with positive people.

The Trill Entertainment emcee spoke on his lifestyle changes during an interview with Vlad TV after being asked how he plans on staying out of prison.

“Well, I don’t do drugs anymore,” Boosie said. “That’s what I went to jail for. Third offense marijuana and firearms. So, you know, I don’t do drugs no more. I’m more focused, man. Drugs lead to all kind of other bad consequences that come with that. You know? I’m not breaking no rules. I’m drug free. All I want to do is focus on my career. And you know I don’t hang around certain people anymore. My circle’s small. I’m around positive people. But if everything is instilled in me not to get in trouble anymore. Like it’s instilled in me that I’m not going back to that place. So, ain’t nothing negative coming around me. Anybody who know me you can’t bring drugs around me. You can’t bring none of this stuff around me. So, long as I keep this mentality I’mma be successful and stay out of trouble.”

Boosie, who spent close to five years in prison, also questioned the severity of his sentence, which stemmed from drug and gun charges. He later recalled serving some of his time at the Louisiana State Penitentiary on death row with some of the prison’s toughest inmates.

“It made me angry cause I went to jail so angry, man…That’s why I was doing the stupid acts,” he said. “I was doing—getting drugs in the prison. And every day I was high. I was just going through it, man. I was like ‘Damn, I’m not allowed to go to rehab? I’m a user. I like to get high. I ain’t got caught with no twenty pounds or trafficking. I got caught with four grams. I’m a user. Get me help. I’m not allowed to get help? I’m not allowed to get probation to get another chance?’ It was crazy, man…I ran across some crazy dudes. And when you in that surrounding it’s like with all those animals you tend to become somewhat like then. Or you will become prey, you know? So, I had my run-ins in prison, but just grateful I made it out.”

Released from prison in March of this year, Lil Boosie has already begun working on two albums he says will be released in July and December of this year.

“Right now I think I am gonna drop two albums this year,” he said during an interview with XXL. “Drop one July 15 and I am gonna try to drop in December also…I am just trying to go in and go hard. You know, I slept too many days.”
