Los Angeles-born deejay JayCeeOh spent his high school years in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and graduated from Taylor Allderdice High School, the same place Wiz Khalifa, Mac Miller and the founder of Rostrum Records, CEO Benjy Grinberg, attended.

Los Angeles-born deejay JayCeeOh spent his high school years in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and graduated from Taylor Allderdice H.S., the same place Wiz Khalifa, Mac Miller, and the founder of Rostrum Records (CEO Benjy Grinberg) attended. Throughout Wiz’s rise to fame JayCeeOh held him down with mixtape features, radio plays, and was even a special occasion tour deejay for him. A pivotal moment in JayCeeOh’s career was when he attended Emerson University in Boston, where he was the urban-music director at college radio station WERS. While in school the Master Of The Mix winner would play records by Wiz Khalifa before the world was aware of his music, that fact has become a noteworthy one when you consider how far Wiz has gone.
His ties to 412 Hip Hop are an important part of Jay’s story but it’s only a portion of it. The Taylor Gang affiliate has worked with Talib Kweli, KRS-ONE, Little Brother, Wiz Khalifa, J Dilla and Sean Price, among others.  He has also provided music for well-known brands (Nike, RedBull, and Warner Bros Records, among others) and won national multiple deejay battles.
His most recent victory was in the SMIRNOFF “Master of the Mix” reality show where top judges like deejays Kid Capri, deejay Mia Moretti and Ben Maddahi critiqued a slew of hungry contestants. In the end, deejay JayCeeOh took home the crown over other finalist like Chris Karns and Incrediboi. His prize for his impressive win was $250,000 and an opportunity to be SMIRNOFF’s official deejay. He is currently touring with the SMIRNOFF brand as their official deejay.
Since emerging as the winner of the SMIRNOFF presented “Master Of The Mix” VH1 show, the Taylor Gang deejay has been on the road spinning, mixing, scratching and producing music as SMIRNOFF’s official DJ.
The SMIRNOFFF Florida Fresh Mix Tour kicked off on June 16 at Suite Nightclub in Jacksonville and ended on June 20 at Room Service in Miami. He is now hitting up other parts of the country.
The Miami event was a special one, JayCeeOh was spinning his music on South Beach while those in attendance partied and watched the Miami Heat beat the San Antonio Spurs for their third NBA championship.
SMIRNOFF made sure that the drinks, music and the kicks on people were fresh as could be; there was a spot where you could get your sneakers cleaned. HipHopDX got to chop it up with JayCeeOh. We learned who his top 5 deejays are, and how he showed Wiz Khalifa love before the Pittsburgh star blew up and more.
HipHopDX:
Your big on the mixtapes. What are your top 5 Mixtapes that have come out in the digital era?
JayCeeOh:
That’s hard to say but off the rip; I’m going to have to say Super 7 volume one through five. That’s my baby right there.
HipHopDX:
Cool man! You went to the same High School as Mac Miller and Wiz Khalifa. Tell us about a little more about that.
JayCeeOh:
They all went to my high school. They were both younger than me. More in my year was the guys who started Rostrum. Those were like my dudes. I ran in that circle. So when they first signed Wiz I was in Boston at that point. I was on the radio and doing mixtapes. They were like “We just signed this guy Wiz, check him out.” I would look out every time I had a mixtape coming out and I would get exclusives. I had a bunch of Wiz exclusives before anyone. I was playing him on the radio and I was one of the first deejays to give Wiz love outside of Pittsburgh.
HipHopDX:
That’s big man. So you have collaborated with a lot of big names like KRS-One, Talib Kweli, and Pete Rock etc. Is there anyone you haven’t collaborated with that you would like to?
JayCeeOh:
There are tons of people I haven’t collaborated with that I would like to. At this point in the Hip Hop realm, I would love to fucking do a joint with Kanye or Jay.  I would love to do a record with Drake. Right now I’m focusing on production. I have a lot of beats that I have been waiting to unleash for this moment.  Now that I have won (Master Of The Mix), it’s all eyes on me. Now when I present shit to people they are like “All right, I’m going to check for it”. I’ve had credibility for a minute but now it’s like “VH1 TV champion”.
HipHopDX:
That’s mainstream man.
JayCeeOh:
Exactly
HipHopDX:
When you talk about the deejays that were judging you, there is deejay Kid Capri, deejay Mia Moretti and Ben Maddahi. How was it having legendary dudes sort of validating what you do?
JayCeeOh:
It was dope. I’ve been getting validation from legends through my mixtapes for a minute, the fact that I got Jazzy Jeff, Z-Trip and DJ Revolution on my tape. I don’t pay anyone; they do it because they respect what I do and they know what dope is in deejay culture. Coming up I’ve done collaborations with those artist you mentioned before so I have respect from legendary cats but its dope to get validation on national TV, it brings it all together.
HipHopDX:
Who are your top 5 deejays?
JayCeeOh:
I’m influenced by a lot but I will say A-Trak, Kid Capri, Jazzy Jeff, Revolution, and Craze. Give or take. I mean there are a lot of people I looked up to coming up.
HipHopDX:
You’re heavy on the production right now. I know Wiz Khalifa has a new project coming out (Blacc Hollywood). Any possibility you will get a record on that?
JayCeeOh:
There is a possibility. Rostrum is my fam. I got a batch of beats I’m about to unleash. I just got the win and I’m about to send out these beats to a lot of artist within the next week. Wiz gets first pick on what I got coming. Then we will see where everything goes.
HipHopDX:
How is the tour going so far?
JayCeeOh:
It’s been great man! Ever since I won I haven’t been home once. I’m on my grind, different cities, rocking clubs and doing my own shit.
